I hear ya, mom... no running today and just EZ 5 on Tuesday. Gotta figure out though how to get a few really good hill runs to prep for the big race on the 22nd... Checked our local series' standings this morning and I can't let Miss Long Legs have that one!!!

{{{{Abby Dog}}}}

Eric... ewww. Actually, dear, you can keep them... really!
My DS2 went to the dr on Friday cuz he just can't shake this cold/cough, whatever it is. Turns out his asthma has worsened and he's developed a sinus infection and some lung congestion (not quite pneumonia, but that would be next step). So, antibiotics, ramp up the inhaler, track the flow meter progress for next two weeks and check back with progress report. Poor kid. Mom missed the ball on this one...

Re: Monday, July 9/07 Boomer and Beyond Runs
Very H&H run today (like everywhere else it seems). Thunder storms building as I post this. Began run with Plan B that called for cutting back 7-8 miler if it got too hot and HR moved up too high. First half fine; second half not too bad but HR on the move (and I was drenched!) ... but since it wasn't over the top decided to push run to 9 miles.

9.0 mi ...1:30:25 ...10:03 pace ...149 ave hr

Wishing all the hurting Boomers a speedy recovery.

Re: Monday, July 9/07 Boomer and Beyond Runs
I put in a solid 6 miler today at a 10 minute pace. I'm most pleased considering it's about as humid as Calcutta India here in Memphis. It dumped an inch of rain or so in a matter of about 20 minutes about an hour before my run, so I really practiced jungle running.

I believe training in thick, syrupy humidity makes me a better runner. I set a goal when I started to not stop for an hour. I love my Nathan water belt.

I noticed there are few other boomers with similar problems who seem to be getting better, so I guess I shouldn't give up.

Dave... I know everybody's injuries may be a bit different, but in my case I got some dramatic relief from heel pain after I strted doing hamstring stretches recommended by my PT. These are the simple, sit on floor with legs straight out and knees locked, bend at the waist and touch your toes giving a good stretch behind the knee. Hold for 30 secs and do 3 times. Just try it once and see if the pain goes away. If/when you ar felxible enough, you can grab your foot and pull it back. That really helps me. PF is all about giving tight muscles, facia and (I think) the sciatic nerve, some slack. I started doing this stretch or another version (leg on counter, knee locked and pull back on foot with your hand) 3-4 times per day with amazing results. Let me know if it has an effect.

Thanks a lot. I'll let you know how it goes. I have read a lot about stretching the calf and working on trigger points in the calf, but it makes sense to work the stretching further up to the hamstring.

Re: Monday, July 9/07 Boomer and Beyond Runs
30 minutes on the road bike doing some quick stuff, then 30 minute run following the bike, medium then short bursts..interval training tomorrow...and I also pick up my duo-suit...will be sporting my coaches colors....Should be interesting running in this outfit and sitting on a bike for over 3 hours with very light padding vs cycling shorts...hmmm pro where are you when I need you...

Take care
