Re: Wednesday 25 July Boomer Runs
Who's this NewGuy starting the thread off from across the
Pond? I thought that was Roy's job. You picked a heck of a week to be over there, Mark!

PBJ: Like Lou & Mary, I'll come back on my lunch break when I'm more awake and read about your adventures.

Holly: Hope you have a clean checkup today.

Derrick: How'd you break your toe? Since you didn't mention it, I'd guess it was some not-so-smooth move?

Ran my usual 4.3 miles out of the Oakland U. Rec Center with a friend this morning. In the 60s and humid with the threat of showers, but really a pretty pleasant run.

Good luck to everyone else on their runs today.

Monday, how horrible. I can't even begin to imagine.... Please keep us posted. {{{Monday's Family}}}}

I skipped out on track practice this morning for a number of good reasons but I still got up and ran 3.55. Midway through I was treated with a light rain. If I didn't have so much to do I would've kept going. I wish it would start pouring as we really need the moisture after so many days of 100 degree temps.

Memories of winter --- ahhh... I miss winter.

Re: Wednesday 25 July Boomer Runs
I've been wondering about our UK brethren too. We hadn't heard from any of them really, and I was getting worried watching the news. Glad Roy is OK, hoping Elaine is too ...

Holly, next time you gotta pick it up Girl. That 6:XX is going down. ("Male Ego kicking in" - I gotta try this sometime ... never have).

5 easy recovery miles on the TM. It seemed a bit harder than it probably should have been, so I guess I needed the easy day.

Good runs all.

PBJ, that was awesome!

Yesterday when I read MC's account of the car thumping it reminded me of Ron's race when the cop wouldn't go fast enough and he pounded on the trunk to tell him to speed it up. Anybody remember rdracing?

A long walk for me today, but I am at last home, albeit only for a few days. Sunny Cal., here I come! Spareribs

Re: Wednesday 25 July Boomer Runs
Monday

First of all, my sympathy to you, your husband and all of the extended family, friends, neighbors and community involved in these senseless deaths.

I have done a session in similar situations entitled "When Bad Things Happen To Good People". It is involved and longer than what is practical to put on the forum.

It is important to recognize a couple of things.

1) It is normal in such circumstances to ask the question "Why", but while asking it the answer we want never comes.
2) Just as often as "bad" things happen with no apparent reason, so do "good" things happen. ie....people buying their first lottery ticket winning the jackpot....
3) We cannot let the unexplained change our solid preventative measures that stop MOST (but obviously not ALL) of these situations from happening. The parallel here would be trying to thwart terrorist attacks. So far our good procedures have stopped another catastrophic attack from happening on US soil. However, most likely there will be another horrific event.
4)God is sovereign Simply stated, He sees a bigger picture than what we can see. We often do NOT understand, but our faith in the fact He is in control can provide a measure of comfort for this moment and hope for the future.

Again, know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Joey

Re: Wednesday 25 July Boomer Runs
It looks like the Boomers are still here, after my long absence. Good morning everyone. I am feeling cautiously optimistic about my injury recovery now, so feel okay about posting a run. This morning I ran 3x7 minute easy runs, separated by 3 minute walks. Workout was preceded and finished with about 10 minutes of easy walking. Total was about 3.5 miles. My hip (official diagnosis: bursitis) feels fairly normal, but I'm being very careful to build back up gradually. (I've even ventured into the water running arena ).

Roy, I had wondered about you (and Elaine) when I saw the news of the flooding in Britain. I hope the deluge stops ASAP! (I, for one, could probably live comfortably in a desert - I hate rain, let alone flooding).

Perch, when I left for my "sabbatical", you were recovering from PF. It looks like you're well on your way back - great news!

Holly, you're in fine form, as usual. Best of luck on the new puppy. I saw his pic yesterday and he's a cutiepie!

Got to go - work calls.

Re: Wednesday 25 July Boomer Runs
A superb PBJ post! I'm glad I checked in today even though I won't be running. Choove, I miss winter too, because I had no aches and pains and I was running like the wind (gentle breeze)... . MarkGuy, safe travels. MrF won't be heading home from the UK until Saturday. After a month there he's more than ready. Roy, good to hear you are OK. MrF is in the north and hasn't had problems there. It's ice and ibu for me today, the ITB is sore simply walking. I looked up a bunch of stretches last night. I had been doing some of them but probably not often enough. Enjoy the day!

8 easy miles, 3 barefoot

Derrick, ouch! I hope the busted toe heals quickly.

Monday, I do some running in Vibram Fivefingers. If possible you will want to find a place to try them on rather than (or prior to) ordering online. They are a great way to get the barefoot running experience with reduced risk to your feet. Sorry about the other horrible goings on...

Nice speed Holly.

Ugh, I'm not up on the latest Tour news. Going to find out about that now....

Today was track day for the butterfly lady. 5 miles total including playing with a 12x 400m @SBUH.

Running late to attend a training today. I hope to be able to read the posts later tonight. PBJ, I printed your poem to read it while I am listening to the trainer this morning .

I sure hope DH is thinking of us today. Enjoy your Greek meals dear boomer god. And please take a lot of pictures.

Holly is at the door of a sub 7? I bit you where smiling the whole way!!!!.

Lindaroo, how are you doing with the asthma and your latest doctor's visit? I was thinking of you this morning.

Best of luck to Arf, Divechief and John this weekend.
What happened to our Taper Boy ? He has been too quiet this week.

Good runs to all! Count your blessings and your water!

Bill Petit and I share several patients. I am in shock-along with many of my colleagues. It is horrific, to say the least. Many of us have not slept well...

My deepest sympathy to your family (and his) at this most difficult time.

I am reminded of life's precious brevity all too often. kiss your kids/SO tonight and appreciate how lucky we are and how it can all change in an instant.

I cannot even imagine having my family ripped away from me and every time I think about it, I am ill...

Monday, all you can do is be there for him. Hold his hand, hug him, listen to him, there's nothing you can say to explain any of this. Just be his friend/lover while he naturally grieves.

Re: Wednesday 25 July Boomer Runs
A fair amount has happened since my last post on Monday. mc, that was quite a run with rain, lightning, hail, and crazy driver. Hi, hopeful. It's good to hear from you. dg, congrats on breaking a pace barrier. pts, it's great for you to get in a run after your ultra. It's good to hear from glidegal. Mark, it sounds like you got in a nice run in the UK. I'm sorry to hear about the weather and weather related problems for the locals. It's good to hear Roy is fine. Now we need to find out about Elaine. PBJ, it's good to hear from you. That's quite the Tucson tale. Also, you are quite a prolific poet. Holly, I'm glad to hear the pets are ok. dshclio, sorry to hear about the broken toe. I hope it doesn't cause much problem. Does this rule out Carrollton? Monday, it sounds like your broken toe is making progress. My thoughts are with all concerned over the terrible tragedy involving your husband's relatives. hally, sorry about your toe and glad to hear it's not too bad the next day. mbelongia, it's good to have you back and running.

Nice long runs for canfit, runwun, Egret, breger, Peter, Tramps, Twocat, pfriese, Robin, mc, Flying, runwun (again), Lab, and WRFB. Good job on the speedwork for Holly, DaveinAA, canfit, affreeman, and mariposai.

This morning it was in the low 60s, calm, and a bit humid. I debated my normal 8 miles or a shorter run in anticipation of this weekend's 20K. I think I was just looking for an excuse to be wimpy and took advantage of it to do 6 miles in about 56 minutes for a 9:20 pace.

A good day and good runs for all.
