Wednesday August 1 Boomer Runs

Is it OK if the night owl starts the thread today?

I don't have a run to post because I am injured, I just wanted to say to tomwhite I am so sorry to hear about Pickles and you will get through this. Know that you have a community of people here to lean on that love and care about you both.

...and for any others who need a hug,

Sorry to hear about your ITBS injury Arf. You'll be back soon enough smiling while running those crazy ultra thingies!

Definitely un-ultra like for me today. 5 recovery paced miles at 9:35 min/mile pace. Avg. HR 133.

Bill

Good morning, everyone.

(I had said) Hopefully I'm not creating a second thread again. (but, arf beat me to it -- I hope you get over your injury quickly)

Cooler this morning at 62F, but still humid at 95%. Did I ever complain about running in the winter?

There's a guy in my neighborhood who starts running earlier than I do. He's training for his first marathon -- the Marine Corps.

Stats: 6.1 miles easy, 51:41 (8:25/mi)

Have a great run today.

Rabbit, Rabbit!!

3.75 mile run/walk with Brinkley today. I could tell at mile 2 I was going to have some "bathroom" issues and still had to get home - so I had to mix in some creative walks to make it there. Even with all the walking mixed in I averaged a 10:18 pace which is okay I guess.

I hope you are off the injured list soon Arf1.

Happy Hump Day!

arfy! You can't do that! Staying up is not an ok way to start the daily. Now tell me, is it an ITB cure either?

Way ahead of you in time zones only.

ps great pics in the ultra thread. way to lure those puppies along.

Re: Wednesday August 1 Boomer Runs
Apologies for not posting here for a while. I got out of the habit while I was injured. I've also been working really hard and I find the CH such a great place to release my stress

I went for a run last night and my socks were sticking to the bottom of the shoe.

I took my shoes off and realized there were no insoles. I had obviously been drying them out at some point and forgotten to put the insole back in.

My schedule called for an easy 3 miler so I finished the run insole free.

I'm wondering if these are the same shoes I used for my 11 miler on Sunday

Good Morning Boomers!

Tammy ? congratulations for you monthly PR and going over 100 miles for the first time ever ? Woo Hoo!

BAP ? what is the CH?

So much sadness in Boomerland lately has me feeling very grateful for my many blessings. I thought I?d share a couple of happy items in my life with you today. Here is my DD serenading me this morning outside the bathroom as I fussed with my hair. She bought this keyboard at Torch-R-Us with her birthday money.

And here is our new addition ? Dexter, 9 weeks old now. Still not potty trained. (sigh)

8.1 recovery-paced miles (ave 10:09) in 67 degrees.

Happy Wednesday!

Good morning!
GL healing up, arffy

I saved deer today! I was running along and startled 3 or 4 deer so they were running along the yards and I was right behind them on the road. Then they decided to dart across the road right as a minivan was rapidly approaching. I yelled, waved my arms and the van stopped just in time for the deer to pass a couple feet in front of the van.

8.2 miles in 1:08:23 (8:20 average) but it was a tempo with 2.2 miles wu with Tory at 9:12 pace then 5 miles tempo.
Temperature 68F 93% humidity (ugg). Targeted HR mid - upper 160's (85-90% MHR). Splits: 7:57(155), 8:07(165), 8:07(167), 7:40(170), 7:38(171). These times would be 30 secs faster in the winter
Then 1 mile cooldown at 8:26 pace.
Best of all no foot issues during the run and the pain in the top of my foot was minimal after. Just had to stretch the back to calm the foot!

Have greta runs!

Re: Wednesday August 1 Boomer Runs
morning boomers,

pro, I think she already did. morning arf -). get better.

I've been following your advice, dh, of doing something even if I'm not sure what I'm doing is the best choice.... so, last night callanetics leg series, pelvic rotations & pelvic lifts. this morning callanetics 'hips' while kneeling, (100 x 4)(2 legs you know) bent & straight legs, abs 1, 3 & 4, (skipping 2 which are the worst) stability ball side lifts & leg tosses. later I'll do the running specific exercises from that book that I still don't know what to call.

can anyone offer a good definition of plyometrics? the author of this book refers to them as part of your routine, but doesn't say whether that's what his exercises are.

yay perch the deer saver. happy feet. what did your pt say when you threw your foot at him? better when you bend your back??

pdr, good luck thursday. {{{ }}}

ksrunr, I'll be thinking of you today. will be a tough one.

thanks Holly. perfect picture choices. woohoo pr!!
tammy too

thanks eSeS for yesterday's.

good runs workouts everybody, as always.

Re: Wednesday August 1 Boomer Runs
Ksrunr - got the picture fixed now.

Dg9-Deb ? The microphone on DD?s keyboard works quite well. Last night I found her outside DS?s (locked) bedroom door with it as she was saying (into the microphone), ?MOM SAYS TO OPEN YOUR DOOR RIGHT NOW!? (I had said no such thing.) Seeing me, DD whispered a quick aside, ?Mom, tell him he has to come out and play with me, ?cause I?ve had a hard day.?

Re: Wednesday August 1 Boomer Runs
Just a little cross-training today ? 4 circuits on the universal and thirty minutes on the elliptical. Pressed for time since I woke up at 4:30 this morning. Late for me, but I had an excuse - I didn?t get to sleep until 1:30, after returning from the Police concert last night. They put on an excellent show. And I felt young (looking around at that stadium crowd). Much different than when I went to see AC/DC when I was thirty, and felt like the oldest fan there (of course, the guy in the schoolboy uniform playing the guitar was more ancient than me).

The Police played for almost two hours, and they played almost all their hits. Sting was buff, and his voice was crisp. Even though it was an outdoor stadium, it was LOUD (what?) The opening act was Fiction Plane ? a non-descript group except for the fact that the lead singer is Sting?s son (musical nepotism). He did look and sound just like a young Sting.

This was the third time that I?ve seen the Police. The first time was when Flock of Seagulls opened for them (remember I Ran? And remember the guy?s hair?) The second time I saw the band was from the third row on the floor, and the Go-Go?s were the first performers. We got those seats by sleeping out overnight in sub zero temps on the streets of New Haven. The blackberry brandy kept us warm. Ah memories.
