BAP, I don't think the insoles do much for you anyway. I mean, other than prevent your socks from sticking.

Perchcreek, you may have saved a minivan too.

dg9, are you reading Explosive Running? Here's some info on plyometrics[/URL" target="_blank">.

Yeah, c'mon Holly, she's had a hard day.

Happy August 1st!

quote:
There's a guy in my neighborhood who starts running earlier than I do. He's training for his first marathon -- the Marine Corps.

WRFB, did life get too hectic to get your neighborhood running group off the ground? If not, this guy might be your first member?

arf1, I'm hoping your knee gets better quickly.

Holly, I don't know who's cuter, DD or DP (dear puppy). Did earplugs come with that piano?

Ksrunr, I know the funeral will be a celebration of DK's life. Bittersweet. My thoughts will be with you today.

Perch, I'm so glad your foot didn't complain at you today. Hopefully it stays that way.

I made another breakthrough this morning: 4 x 8 minute jogs with 2 minute walk breaks. (Preceded by 5 minutes walking and finished with 10 minutes walking.) Total distance was 4.37 miles and 32 minutes of running. (I figure it was probably 3 miles running, or thereabouts). I am very happy to be able to do this much, as it's been such a long road. But I feel like Gumby now - where did my old legs go? I want them back!

Oh, and the headache: almost gone! Now I pray I don't get another one for a very long time.

Marie

Tom - in case you didn't see my post last night.. lots of {{hugs}}, mojo, good thoughts for you & Pickles.

Tammy - woohoo on the over 100 PR! You are doing great girl!!

Last night I did 1 hour on the TM & 2.1 mile of it was running (straight through), 3.20 mile in all. Think I'm back to normal schedule after last weeks craziness & visit to my dad on the weekend.

Holly,

Your daughter is really funny, and that was a great photo of her. She is the proverbial live wire/hot ticket/you-name-it. What fun to watch her grow up!

Arf, take care of the ITBS.

Holly, cute pictures! Your daughter is adorable.

Perch, nice work on saving the deer. That would've been awful to witness.

Millbot, to answer your question from the other day. Doesn't matter how brawny the son a mom can always get into SBUH gear if they think the boy is in trouble.

With virtually no guilt I skipped track practice with the coach and group today and ran with a friend instead. The plan was to do some fartleks but we were both rather tired so just tried to hold a steady pace. I thought we'd do 4 or 5 miles but we ended up with 6.22. I'm happy enough.

millbot, I am. good call. any opinions? I don't have the background to assess it. so far I'm doing the stretches & the 'special strength exercises for runners'.
thanks for the link. hurrying now, will look more later & check the side links. it does seem to apply, to varying degrees.

Re: Wednesday August 1 Boomer Runs
Ah, a much needed "rest" day for me. That means a ton of errands to run after work. At least I won't have to run in the 95°F heat this afternoon.

Holly - cute picture of your DD. For some reason, the Partridge Family popped into my head...

WTG Tamacentalina on your first 100 mile month. Now go PR in a race somewhere!

Rindaroo - It was very nice to also see your mileage total in the monthly mileage thread.

{{{{{{{{{{{{arf's ITBS knee}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Nice going perch on the deer save. Hopefully the car driver was grateful too.

When I opened my work calendar today, it had a note to register for the Portland Marathon. Gulp! I guess I have to go through with this marathon nonsense...

Re: Wednesday August 1 Boomer Runs
I am one happy butterfly goddess today. My son is back from Paraguay. It seems like the past six months he spend in a foreign country as an exchange student has been a positive experience for him. I am just so happy to have my 15 year old back.

Rindaroo, I am so glad to see your postings and happy that you are able to run, does that mean the asthma is behaving?. Tammy, be proud of your monthly PR, WTG girl. Mbelongia, you also are doing great with increasing your miles. PBJ, it seems like you had a lot of fun with "The Police". PeterNC, great 10 miler today.

No time to run for me this morning. Planning to do a semi long run tonight before we take off to go on vacation.

Thanks for the hugs arf. I think we all need them today. Thanks for "trailsitting" two special boomers for us during their first ultra. I know they were in "good hands"

That's been some moon this week, hasn't it?

Six extremely slow, sweltering recovery miles along the river.

Re: Wednesday August 1 Boomer Runs
Towpath tempo with the Mr. It was delightfully cool in the woods this morning and there were lots of people out biking or walking dogs.
0 wu (bad) because MrF's wu is my tempo pace.
4 miles at 8:22 average
1 mile cd
8:42 overall
I didn't see any deer today but there was a nice buck in my neighbor's back yard last night looking for apples under their tree. He's a little early, unless he likes green apples.
edited because Garmin did better math than me
