Re: Sunday, Auguest 5/07 Boomer Runs
Cross training day for me, I still have about 2 or 3 cords of wood to stack.
Good words of wisdom, vista, thanks for sharing.

I guess I'm a day late to the party, but hold your head high Holly, from what I read (and usually don't respond to) here on the forum, you appear to be an excellent mother, wife, and person, not to mention a great runner. I know how those childhood issues persist way into adult life. Do your best not to pass those issues on to your kids and remember, you haven't done anything wrong. If possible, try not to have a rift with your brother, as he probably didn't have a choice in the matter either. Good luck to you. {{{{{{ holly }}}}}}}

goodrunning to all & congratulations Rinda on your successful run the other day.

John

Re: Sunday, Auguest 5/07 Boomer Runs
I got in 3.65 in 44.50 on a new run route. In my mind when i was thinking about it i thought it was longer like almost 5 miles.I guess i was mistaken.

It was a nice day no animals seen but i did pass 3 other runners and we all said good morning to each other.

I bought my son a WII game console since i bought my daughter a computer and printer for school. That thing is a blast and its tiring too.No more sitting down playing video games. This one has you moving around.

The kids were shocked to get up at 730 thinking they were getting up early to play and there was dad already playing after doing his run.

nothing like sleeping in to 530 getting in a run then getting your Zelda on.

PDR - I snuck out as well - 4.5 miles listening to Mahler. My first time running with an ipod - it was fun! RT - I looked for you on the bikepath - I think you are still in Maine.

Vista - thanks

robp - where have you been?

Sans and Sally - have fun

tomwhite - pickles is in good hands!

Holly, don't worry about it. The marathon will have cooler temps, which will make a big difference, and you'll have the benefit of taper magic.

11.25 M @ 9:20 m/M. Temp in the mid-70's and hoomid.

Re: Sunday, Auguest 5/07 Boomer Runs
Thanks Vista, your thoughts are always welcome. I remember why running with you seemed to go by so fast... the discussion is always good!

Holly, you soar with eagles on a daily basis... don't let the turkeys drag you down! Also, don't let others tear apart bonds with your brother... I saw that happen in my husband's family and its a very terrible thing. Nobody wins.

Robin, my mac says I'm missing a plug in to see your dots. Good run though! It always bugs me when I feel I don't do well in a race, but the next time out to "just run" seems effortless. Bah.

So nice to see Perch doing so well, and DaveinAA. And PDR! Yeah... any after effects?

TomWhite, can't imagine the garage running. Sure must have a cleaner garage than I do! Hope all goes well for Pickles...

Sans and MS... have a greta time. Sounds like that's gonna be easy.

I'm getting ready for my 8k this morning. Feeling a little jittery after learning "Ms. Long Legs" has made it her goal to beat me. Hmph. Well, fair enough I guess, since my goal is to beat her! But today I just don't feel like running, the course is full of bends and corners (has you zigging and zagging around in two neighborhoods and crossing a bridge twice), it's raining and I'm tired. Up too late cleaning blueberries and getting ready to travel. Oh well, it'll be what it'll be. I'll be delighted with a 37:xx time, but it'll polly be much more than that given all the above.

Joey - I always look forward your "ramblings" and I often find encouragement and perspective in them. At least at times, I suspect many of us are trying to wear a smile even though we are hurting inside. Some have the courage / inclination to be more open about it. Speaking for myself, your words encourage me very much and I appreciate you taking the time to offer them. If you can find a few tips on running (or maybe how NOT to) in my posts, it is my pleasure.

Yesterday's 6.5 running miles went well. I'm off to the Y for my long dance w/ Ms. Elliptical. Hope I don't fall asleep on it. I made the mistake of consuming some caffeine last night when I should have been going to bed.

Enjoy the day folks.

Skip dAAve and all y'all,
I have been cloistered for the last week with no hope of catching up.

In the spirit of "misery loves company", I shall virtually join Skip for a monotonous romp at the rec. center. I shall run on the mill to nowhere.

On a positive note, at 0545, the r.s. ran 18 miles. He is now a Pfitz Fiend.

Re: Sunday, Auguest 5/07 Boomer Runs
A little late posting an earlier than normal Sunday run. Had to drop DD off at her bakery job at 7, so was organized enough to have my running clothes on and continued on to Breakheart Reservation, my Sunday run spot.

I did some more trail running, having little idea of exactly where I was going, but enjoying everything but the highly active deer flies. Haven't the faintest idea of how far I went, either, but went hither and yon for an hour and a quarter. Hope in a couple more weeks of this, I might be able to map out an actual route and figure out how much I really ran. (since I'm technologically deprived )

Holly--I'm late to the party as usual, but do your best to not let things bother you too much. Much, much easier to say than to do, I know. DW has had the same sort of thing with her parents (and still does) and we're both in our 50's As others have said--it sure sounds like you're on the right path with your family--so you're a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for if you can work beyond this history. Hang in there.

Re: Sunday, Auguest 5/07 Boomer Runs
Hi Boomers,
I see we have all kinds of runners here. I use to do atleast one long run a week..about 13 miles...since the weather has warmed up it's been a few months for me. Now my long days a 7 miles. Maybe when the weather cools off again i won't be such a baby.

Joey- I think it's nice when people care enough to give advice. I'm sure i'll need some soon enough...

Robin- My race last month was the same way. The day of the race...humidy...sunny...the next day...cool ...overcast...just my luck..lol

Holly-I use to have a lot of family issue. Mine got to the point that i had to cut off all contact with my parents. It's a long story but i knew i had to do it for my daughter. You sound like a very loving mother..i wish you luck and happiness...

Barb...OMG...i love watermelon..now i might have to go out and get one...lol

Lets see ...well today was my off day..it's the one day a week i sleep in...for me sleeping in is 7am...i get up every other morning at 4:40 for my run...and now thanks to you all i have some new wonderful music to run to ..so thanks..

Have a wonderful evening...

Re: Sunday, Auguest 5/07 Boomer Runs
Reporting in 3.40 miles today, was going for another 3 mile run. But I started getting whooped on the uphill at about 2.55, so walked .20 & then ran another .65 so, huh that actually ended up 3.20 miles running. Guess I just needed the little walk break, I ran the last .65 at about 11 min/pace, but the whole thing was 13 min/pace (including the walk break).

10.3 actual running this week - geez I can't remember how long its been since I ran that much in a week, maybe close to 2 years ago.. so maybe I should call that a PR Woohoo!!

Persistence not Perfection!!!!

Holly - {{hugs}} I have the same experience with my SD (since age 12), his comments always feel like daggers through the heart. Finally, approx 1 year ago I made a decision. I put him where he belonged in my heart & mind at that time, not where I wished he was.. I treated him & expected him to be a loving, caring person for a long time.. it just isn't reality. So, he doesn't get that loving part of me anymore. How do I do this? I choose not to react to it anymore & give him that power over me. I hope you don't let this get between you & your brother. Really, brothers can be such great allies (even if they aren't as able to stand up to the person).

Linda
