Sat 25th Boomer Runs

Warm weather prediction usually means early start for my long run so I was out the door just as light was creeping up at 5.30am this morning. Cutback week this week so only a 12 miler but I decided to up the anti half way and come back in negative splits, really going for it over the last 3 miles.

I'm reading Paula Radcliffe's autobiography and as I started to tire in the last mile I thought of what she would do and dug in and thought of the finish line. Yesssssss, what a nice run!

Have a great weekend everyone and best wishes to our racers..

Re: Sat 25th Boomer Runs
Three miles in very hot and humid conditions. The thermometre was not necessarily that high, but it "seemed" extremely hot with the sun beating down and then radiating back up hotter than ever. This does not make for easy running.

Nevertheless, I managed my three miles and was appreciative of the fact I COULD run.

Good luck as well to our CRIM racers today. We started out with around 10 people planning to attend, but through a series of injuries and circumstances the number will be greatly reduced.

I just posted a thread that is trying to see how each of us have varied measures of success and failure. It deals as well with self image and goals. It asks the question that if you had the ability to know ahead of time your time, what pace would be so discouraging that you would not bother to race. It also asks the question of what pace would be the neatest time to achieve if you "hit it". I hope it proves to be an interesting and fun thread.

Happy miles over the weekend everyone.

Good Morning Boomers!

Elaine ? nice fast finish LR!

Hi Roy and Perch and Vista! (waving happily)

7 easy-paced miles (ave pace 9:50, ave HR 133) for me today in 71 degrees. Pain in the ball of my foot below the big toe (tender sesamoids) in my right foot caused me to break out my new shoes for this run. Not quite new, actually, since I ran my last 20-miler in them. I?ll run tomorrow?s 21-miler in them, then put them in the closet to wear for the marathon. With less than 50 miles on them, they should be broken in but still comfy.

DD has her first soccer game this morning. I spent an hour yesterday putting together the game roster. 8 quarters, 5 players each quarter, 8 players on the team. Everyone must be played an equal amount of time, but I can?t put a player in 2 quarters in a row unless he/she is a goalie for one of them. Add to that 2 players that need to be separated because of fighting issues. And everyone wants a chance to be goalie. (sigh) I bet one of you computer programmers could come up with a program for this much faster than it took me. Now I just hope everyone shows up, or my roster will be a shambles.

Good luck to the racers today!

morning boomers -)

way to go ukers! (wonder if that's like yupper?) excellent runs, both. roy, great hr/pace. my adjusted goal is to have my ahr really high. then I succeed sometimes. .

glad you had such a nice trip, perch.

nice run in the heat, Vista. :-)

{{{ Holly's sesamoids }}} did the new shoes help? good luck with soccer politics & logistics. I just bet there are a few parents there that add to the fun.

it's nice you're getting a little bit of a break from the triple digits, Peter.

great news Munch!

yippee adave2 isn't limping.

callanetics & stability ball & basement cleaning so far today. tomorrow I'm going to run mid-day for the first time... the weather should be ok, I'm hoping to do the river route. I'll wear sandals & change there...hopefully no howling dog without a run at home. wonder what other triggers I should change.

have a great day everybody.
good luck racers!

Re: Sat 25th Boomer Runs
71 and 95% humidity here at the beach and FOG (thats the picture and word on weather.com) When I lived in Wilmington, DE we had fog so bad sometimes you couldn't drive a car.

Anyway 30 min run for me. Last night was 30 min stairmill and a weight training total body class.

Good luck to those racing and speedy healing vibes to the injured.

Holly, fighting little girls that have to be separated

Re: Sat 25th Boomer Runs
YICK. 72F and 100% humidity when I went out.

I took JD for 2.5 miles. She's funny -- when she gets "too far" from the house (in her mind, such that it is), she decides it's time to go back. She is not tired -- I guess just a bit anxious about being away from home.

My plan said to run a tuneup race, so I felt guilty about wanting to run easy, so I did a bit of an impromptu tempo run. I'm calling it 1 mile w/u, 4.1 miles half hearted tempo @7:42/mi.

Stats: 5.1 miles, total 39:57 (7:50/mi)

Good luck racers!

10 miles at 5:30 am, 73 degrees, over 100% humidity. Legs tired from a run/ steep hike combo yesterday but I survived.

My clothing looked like I had just gone swimming though.

Good Morning!! Up to drive my son to the 7:00am boat for an off-island football scrimmage and then out by 7 for 5 miles on the hike and bike trail in my neighborhood. Really humid today as we may have to break down and head for the beach!

Have a great day!

Re: Sat 25th Boomer Runs
good morning boomers,
sounds like elaine and roy got the warm weather we had in sweden yesterday; coolish today with blustery winds.

my run was sort of like elaine's, though not cutback week, just the reverse - today was my longest run ever, just over the HM at 13,13 miles. i also dug in the last three, and ran them at a faster pace than the first 10.beautiful scenery today, with fluffy sheep, sleek horses, grazing cows - and a real live swedish cowboy riding a horse, complete with boots, spurs, and cowboy hat!

it was an adventure run - i ran a new route over to the next fjord and wandered in and out of some small roads. found new places to explore next year - this was my last long run in sweden, we fly home on tuesday.

the stats: 13.13 miles in 3.07, avg pace 14.18, AHR 132
good luck to the racers and happy weekend all,

Re: Sat 25th Boomer Runs
Two things I notice about you Holly. One is you don't have enough shoes, and the other is that you are getting stronger and faster in leaps and bounds. If I were you I would start scouring the local races and find all those that offer a free pair of shoes to the AG winners and start winning a few pairs. You are running well enough to be a very serious contender for 1st in AG. I suspect where you are in Ohio there may not be many races. You would clean up in cities like Dallas, where you can choose from about 14 races on a weekend. Hope your foot is better soon.

For those of you laboring through some very warm and humid conditions, hats off to you. I am taking the weekend off, in prep to see the doc on monday. I have work to do, so I'm not going to bother with the elliptical, etc.

I tried to call MCSolar in his van last night to cheer him on, but he was either out running or had his mobile turned off, (or he looked at the display and saw who it was---Eeeek!)
