Re: OK, Who is in for Grandma's Marathon?
no "training" shirt for me, but I got a pink postcard that says "Start Training , NOW!" or something like that. Right now, I got no place to stay, but looking at dorms, don't need luxury, told my wife this trip is business not pleasure.

G'mas has got be one of my all-time favorite marathons and I'm excited to go back this year.

Try St. Scholastica. I guess it's nice for the money. Recommened by my dentist who has slept in his van for the last ten years because he refuses to pay the ridiculous hotel prices. But he's flying to Italy for the Master cross-country ski races next week. Go figure!

St. Scholastica will usually open up registration April 1st. I've never been in other dorms so I can't tell you how they compare but they have a beautiful campus (Alum speaking from experience).

I received my confirmation card and "in training" shirt yesterday!! Now I guess the serious training starts.

Thanks. Lots of work, but worth it. I was fairly satisfied with the performance, especially since my November and December were way too busy and I ended up with only two big weeks of training.

I'm doing Tampa in three weeks. The guy I run with qualified for Boston and it'd be nice to run it together. Five minutes faster at Disney and I would have been there.

Since this will be my first I am still trying to figure out a realistic goal. I kinda have one in mind but I will know better in a couple of weeks when I head out on some longer runs.

For my first marathon, I ran all long runs just a little slower than planned marathon pace, and ran out to 25.2 miles in training. I figured that'd work. It did - but it was courting disaster as it took me all week to recover from those runs, and my chance of injury was probably fairly high. I tried to run all my daily runs at MP or faster, too - there's no way on God's green earth I could do that now - completely stupid. Might work for 30-40mpw. Maybe.

It's always hard to know what to shoot for, but if you can run, say, a 23 mile run with the first 5 miles at MP+90sec/mile, then middle miles in the MP+40-60 sec/mile, then the last 5 miles at MP... you are probably "good as gold." For your first one - I'd err on the conservative side. (well, to be honest, I have a record of going out too fast and dying - so let's just say I've been taught a lesson 9x out of 10 marathons)

So - good luck on your training!

I spectated last year, too. DNS due to injury.

Obsessor- I saw your time at TCM last year- very impressive. Especially considering how hot and humid it was.

Re: OK, Who is in for Grandma's Marathon?
I guess my biggest thought is to get to the big weekend without injury and then the next goal so far is to make it to the finish line. After that I think I am going to be happy with just about any time.

Oh, yeah, forgot about one thing. I was known as "cdunlap" around these parts back then, so in case you're scratching your head going "who the heck is techgoddess, never heard of her?", well, I'm cdunlap. Sorry!
