Re: OK, Who is in for Grandma's Marathon?
The get in gear was a lot of fun for me. I ran 29 a couple of days before, to kill the legs a little bit, and just a part of my regular training. ( I needed to keep myself slow)
Because of my achilles trouble, I did not want to get up on my toes or push it at all. I had to jog it. I approached it like a marathon - start slow and run easy for 6 miles. I could not have been more pleased. After nothing fast for 8 weeks, I ran a very easy 35:42. The fellows I'm usually running against were all 3 minutes ahead of me, so I was able to hold back on whatever competitive urges I might have had.
Unfortunately, it was a little embarassing, because Paulette gave me #10. She knew my situation before the race started, though, so it was OK. I finished something like 61st - Ha! It was a lot of fun, and I did my achilles no harm, so I 'm pretty excited about that. I was almost giddy with how little effort it was to run that speed. Running long works pretty well for me.
I'm starting some ultrasound treatments next week, too, so we'll see how that goes.
I'll have a really really fun report for you all next week. Just you wait!
