Grandma's has raised the entry fee to $75 this year. If I recall correctly this is the second year in a row with a $10 jump. And I assume the spaghetti feed is still extra.

I wonder if they are deliberately trying to lower the number of entries? Several years ago they would cap out in 12 - 15 days. Last year they reached the cap, but it took almost 30 days. They may not reach the cap this year.

Or could it be they have decided to jump their salaries and have the runners pay for it?

Or does adding prize money to the Bjorklund Half Marathon have something to do with it? But why should marathon money go to the half marathoners?

Or is the city gouging them trying to make up deficits in the budget?

THE 31ST ANNUAL GRANDMA'S MARATHON IS ON JUNE 16, 2007

Entry forms for the 2007 Grandma's Marathon will be mailed on Thursday, January 18 to those who have requested them and to those who were registered for the race in 2005 and 2006. Entry forms will also be available to pick up in person at the Registration Kick-off Event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 18 in the main lobby of Wells Fargo Bank in Downtown Duluth (230 W. Superior Street).

The form will be available to download and print from here on the web site beginning Monday, January 22, 2007.

The race is limited to 9,500 participants and entries are taken on a first come/first serve basis.

In order to register you must obtain an entry form. Please read below for further details.

TO OBTAIN AN ENTRY FORM:

To request an entry form for the 2007 race, please send a self-addressed, stamped, #10 business sized envelope with a note stating you want a marathon application to: P.O. Box 16234, Duluth, MN 55816.

NOTE: Please do not send your entry fee check in with your request for an entry form. Payment is due upon registering for the race.

Registration for the 2007 race will begin on January 18, when the entry forms are mailed. The race generally reaches the 9,500 capacity limit fast, therefore once you obtain your entry form, we encourage you to complete and mail it back as soon as possible.

NOTE: Registration is by MAIL ONLY. We will not offer on-line registration. However, the entry form will be available to download and print from here on the web site beginning Monday, January 22, 2007.

Entries that are faxed to the Marathon office will not be accepted. The Grandma's Marathon staff will not fax or email out applications.
