Re: Philly Marathon - November 19, 2006
Well, I'm going to say hi. I'm possibly going to run the philly marathon (I'm from atlantic city). Currently, however, I'm in the lottery for NYC only because Lance is running and I'm a sucker for bragging rights ("Yeah, I ran with lance. I think I saw the back of his head a couple yards ahead of me."). Should that fall through Philly will be my second choice. In a way, I hope I don't get picked this year. I'd much rather run Philly and save money. In other words, hope to see everyone there.

gentlesavage,
I know what you mean - I'm tempted to run NYC and see if I can sidle up to Lance as well. I've got too many marathons already in the schedule though so I'll just have to watcht eh pathetic TV coverage we get here in the US of the NYC Marathon, and rest up for Philly. Supposed to be a GREAT marathon though - I've heard very good things about from people who do a lot of maarathons!

Re: Philly Marathon - November 19, 2006
I want to do this one, I think. I posted in Basic Training that I was debating between this and chicago- Many in my running group are doing this one so that will make it fun. It doesn't fill up, does it? We also want to stay at the Wyndham, I think? Does anyone know how quickly that hotel fills up?

I'm excited because I think this may be the one where I can possibly BQ.

OK, I have to double-dare you here.

You're demoting yourself to host because of running JFK the previous day, right?

HOW DARE YOU! When all your Eastern Seaboard friends are coming in to run Philly.

So it's obvious, you'll just have to run them as a double.

And despite all the reasons for me not to, 2600 air miles being the first, I'll back it up: I'll do it if you will, same time, same races.

No foolin'.... Well?

I know! I feel terrible. I am thinking about coming back Sat night so I can cheer everyone on! I do not think I will be able to do the marathon after running 50 miles the day before. But I am insane, so you never know!

I do not believe it fills up anytime too soon, as someone asked. I also believe that Lance is doing a bike and run in Philly sometime this fall, so google that and be inspired to come here!!! I think you have to raise $$ to participate.

I can't let this thread fall off the page. How is everyone's base building going? Our running group starts official training on June 10th for the Marine Corps Marathon, which is three weeks before Philly. So, I'll start then and get 23 weeks of training, instead of 20, which I need. I've let myself get slightly out of shape and it's freaking me out a bit when I run with my friends and I have a bit of a hard time keeping up with them. I"m hoping it all starts falling into place and I won't struggle as much in a couple of weeks..

everyone else?

Pretty good! I got to 35 mpw this week with a longest run of 8. I bought the Advanced Marathoning book and am looking at the "top out at 55 programs." I'm looking at starting official training in mid-July.

This week with traveling, I'll have a real easy week which I don't like, but my legs probably will. When I get back home I'm going to start building towards 40 as long as the body cooperates.

Later this week I'll be in Philly and plan to check out the course, or at least a good portion of it.

Anyone else?

Re: Philly Marathon - November 19, 2006
I just ran the Vermont City Marathon on May 28. For June and July I'll be running about 40 - 45MPW and doing several races, mostly 10k's. I'll start building mileage in August and will probably peak around 80MPW. Am about to sign up for the Adirondack Marathon (as a training run) in September and may do the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon (as a prelim BQ attempt) in October.

I ran Philly in 2002 and am really looking forward to coming back and hopefully getting a PR. My wife will be running too and if her fall training goes well Philly will be a BQ attempt for her.

Re: Philly Marathon - November 19, 2006
I'm in! 1st marathon since Cape Cod in 2000 & really looking forward to it. Off to a good start training wise with a 12 mile run today. As of right now my goal would be able to finish in 4 hrs, but I'm sure that will change as my training goes along.

Looking forward to hearing from others also running Philly over the coming months. Good luck to all with your training!

Re: Philly Marathon - November 19, 2006
I think I'm gonna do this marathon. I took about 3 months off from running and gained 20 pounds. I'm in the worst shape in 5 years. Anyway, I need a goal to train for and I think this is it.

I'm going to do some local south jersey 5K's that I've always wanted to do. I'll use those and some 10K's as tune-up training runs before the marathon. I'm only running around 30 mpw right now. This will be my first marathon so my goal is to run at 70% of my max hr for the first 20 miles then see what I have left for the last 6.

I've ran 18 and 20 mile training runs for 8K XC and I've always thought, wow, I could probably do a marathon. Anyway, I'm begining a very long gradual build-up starting now.
