I did 20 today and felt pretty good! I got one more 20 miler to do in 2 weeks and then the taper begins!

I'm definatly not in as good of shape as I was prior to Grandma's. Hopefully cool weather will help make up for that. I still plan to have fun. Great course that time of year.

Rob
Are you going to Race that 20 miler or use it for workout? The reason I ask is I'm considering running the City of Lakes 25k. I'm thinking of doing a 2.5 mile warmup. Running the race at around 7 min pace then doing a 2 mile cool down for a 20. But I'm thinking it might be too much too close.

No Aches! I don't want to spread negativity here so I won't whine about what hot summer it has been.

I'm looking forward to seeing how well everyone's going to do!

Rob are you doing the Bear Water or Get ready to rock?

All-

Now that we are getting closer to the marathon, do any of you more experienced marathoners have any words of wisdom to share with those of us who are marathon virgins here?!

Save your energy for Summit Avenue. It's a long death march.

I'd save it for the three hills before Summit, along the river once you get into St. Paul. They stink. After the second, there isn't much recovery till you turn left and go up that steep one to St. Thomas. It's short and steep, but if you get up that in good condition you should be fine for the last 5k.

Also, there's a good hill starting at mile 1.5 in front of the Walker.

Re: UN-Official Twin Cities Marathon Thread -- 10/1/2006
Nothing specific about the course but advice on running a marathon in general. After all the work you put in to train to get ready for the marathon, don't do anything stupid this month that could knock you out of the race. Also don't try anything different on race day that you haven't tried out ahead of time, no new shoes, clothes, food, etc. on race day.

Most of all, have a good time and enjoy the marathon. The Twin Cities is one of the best run, best supported, and funnest marathons out there. Enjoy it.

Re: UN-Official Twin Cities Marathon Thread -- 10/1/2006
With all the rain coming this weekend and friends visiting I decided to do my long run today. I did 18 in 2:18. Pretty happy with that. Going to do some short recovery runs the next two days and run the Vicktory 10k on Monday.
