Race Suggestions: Longer than a 1/2, shorter than Full

I've run a full and I'm now on my 3rd 1/2... not a big racer in general, I just run to run.

However, having something to train for can be pretty motivating. Anyone have a good middle distance race suggestion? I don't feel like preparing for 26 miles... but I'm finding 13 pretty easy right now.

Thanks!
Amanda

It is a curious distance between 13.1 and 26.2.

There is only one race I'm aware of, Around the Bay. It's a huge race in Hamilton Ontario in late March. 30k.

I have not seen or heard of many other 25-30k races around. If you know of some, I would like to hear about them.

I am doing Around the Bay in 2007

Re: Race Suggestions: Longer than a 1/2, shorter than Full
You can sometimes find a 30K race, especially if there's a local marathon coming up; someone may put on a 30K and bill it as a warmup for the full 'thon. There's one here in Dallas some weeks before the White Rock Marathon, and the NYRR has a 30K in Central Park right about this time of year. (Edited to add: Many runners treat Around the Bay, which I've heard good things about, as a tune-up for Boston. FWIW.)

They're rare, though. I have to remind myself that I'm kind of spoiled living in DFW: There are a lot of races around here.

Maybe you need to shift your emphasis from distance to speed. Can you take 2 minutes off your half marathon time? A minute off you 10k time?

I'm with John..... I've been running for 25 years and have raced all distances from 5K to marathons and I never have gotten bored with any distance. Every race is different and I like going into them setting a goal and then trying meet or beat my goal.

The NYC race around this time of the year is this weekend, on Sunday. It's the ING NYC Marathon Tune-Up. An 18 miler around Central Park --- three times around the park, to be precise.

Fifth Third Riverbank Run in Grand Rapids, MI has a 25k.

Race is usually beginning of May - roughly 7-8 hour drive from Buffalo.

Very well organized event.

Dunno if they still have it but there was a 20 miler along the GW Parkway in DC...that's a beautiful drive so I imagine running it would be good too.
