Re: Too Soon for a Boston Marathon thread?

How can I run faster than my average for the 1st 4 miles and still not be going out too fast?
I know there's downhills, but there seems to be a contradiction.<HR>
My approach to the Boston course, and any other for that matter, is to try and pace myself for a fairly even effort. This means that I plan to go faster on the downhills, slower on the uphills, and if I'm really racing the course, I know that the last few miles will be tough, even on level ground.
I know that others will argue this point, but In my opinion you should take advantage of the easier effort when running the downhill sections of this course and run somewhat faster than the pace you will average over the entire distance.
My experience is that at Boston you will be "up to speed" very quickly because of the strict seeding of the runners at the start. Running a negative or even split on this course is extremely difficult. I don't even try.
