I like the layout of the eteamz page better. I can thread the page and know which are the new posts. I don't see those options here.

Am I missing something?

NOPE....but FWIW..I agree...its also hard to define new post when you don't visit everyday...but in Active's defense...I understand that there are more changes coming when its officially up and running....

Re: This forum

I agree Rita. The eteamz forum is what we're all used to using. This is going to take awhile to get used to using. But I don't see where we have too much of a choice. Eventually, the eteamz forum is going to be eliminated and everything there will be pushed over to this forum. So we might as well make the most of it. Hopefully someone at Active is listening and some of the concerns will be addressed and corrected.

Time will tell.

Re: This forum

Rob has promised that the threading issues are being worked on. It is tough to know what you have read and what is new.

My first complaint was the excess use of white. I don't know if it is just how my monitor reads it but I have a lot of white with light blue lines. The blue lines are almost not there.

Re: This forum

Rita,

What I have noticed is that posts that you have read are shown as (updated) next to the post. New posts do not show anything new.

On updated posts, you can click on the right area, showing when the update was made, and it will take you to the most recent posts.

The old active board did not have any feature to take to the most recent posts, you had to go through them and find the ones that showed "new".

I agree that there is a lot of White and Liter colors.

Re: This forum

You're right Mike. The light colored backgrounds are rough on the eyes. The first post in the thread is a light blue that is not too hard to look at. But then everything after that sort of blends together. Why can't the remaining posts be that same color or some shade of gray? Or better yet, alternating colors.

I'd also like to see some method of marking the posts that I haven't read yet. Not just which threads have been updated.

Re: This forum

Rita,

Tom was probably looking at the old board in the "Flat" mode. In the flat mode, it only showed which threads had new posts in them. It didn't give you any other information.

You had to go to the "Expanded" mode to view the little red triangles. You probably used the expanded mode all the time (as did I), and became accustomed to the red triangles. The expanded mode was very user friendly. You could see who the poster was, and who he/she was responding to without ever opening the thread. Hopefully, they'll integrate something like that into this board as well.

Re: This forum

Bill,

Thanks for the information about the expanded mode on the other board.

Yes, I was in the collasped mode and you could only tell when an updated post was made or a new post with the red triangles.

In the expanded, you can tell which posts are new with the red triangles on all new posts, Very nice.

Rita, I agree that is a very nice feature.

Re: This forum

Rita,

Hopefully when eteamz is merged some of the "old" threads are not lost.

We do not want to lose your infamous "headache" thread So my question is:

During the merger, will the old threads also be merged so that we can do a search on them

Re: This forum
This forum will obviously take some getting used to, if it does replace eteamz.

I've been with eteamz since its Team Discovery days almost ten years ago (even though my "Member Since" date shows July 00, I have hard-copy threads from 1998 that I printed when I first started umpiring), and have done the overwhelming majority of my posting on that venue. I also post on the llumpire forum in Yahoo Groups on occasion. I have visited a number of other forums, such as the Officials forum, but never did much on them, mainly because I'm most comfortable with the people on eteamz and the format of its threads.

A few things I don't like with this forum:

1. There's no "Top of Page" link on the messages to get back to the task bar to return to the message lists.

2. The little "in response to" link doesn't really help. If a Michael Taylor message says it's "in response to: BHanlon", but Brian has five messages above Mike's, how do you know which one he responded to, other than by clicking the link? Hard to track as you're reading the threads.

3. Too many links. If I see that Mark S posted a response to my initial discussion, and I click "Mark S", I go to his profile instead of his response. Just a little annoying, that's all.

4. Keeping track of my responses is tough. Let's say I responded to a post by Mason Dixon Blue and asked him a question. On eteamz, I could quickly find my post because it would be under a post by MDB, and would have the question mark icon. But here, I would have to remember not only which discussion MDB's original post was under--did he post his original in "Ball Hit Bat Twice" or "Rule Clarification", for example--but then find the right MDB post with my question after it.

Again, I'm sure once I get used to it, this place will be okay. But I strongly adhere to the "If it Ain't Broke" philosophy. I honestly don't know what was wrong with the eteamz discussion board that the powers-that-be felt the need to start this place.

Manny, I agree but unfortunately to my knowledge our discussion Forum does not generate any revenue to Active.com Therefore, my gut tells me the reason for the change is cost considerations. You are correct that there were many Nice features at eteamz but it probably costs IT Dollars to keep them constantly updated, so perhaps this new Discussion Forum is less costly to "keep-up" then the current one at eteamz, hence the change.

Also, the "other" Forum that you might like is at Umpire.org

Re: This forum
Hi everyone, I'm the Online Community Specialist for team sports here at Active and wanted to jump in and post a reply to reiterate our intentions and upcoming plans which might be helpful while Rob is out on (a much needed/well deserved) vacation.

First of all, thank you all for feedback. As for the layout and white space, there will be user interface changes in the future. We're analyzing your feedback and will make decisions based on member wants and needs such as the ones you have voiced to us. Continued improvement is the plan and this is just the start. There will be many updates and additional features on the new Active as we move forward. ALL existing posts on the eteamz boards will be migrated to these new boards next month.

It is important to us that you know member feedback is why we've created the new Active.com. We have invested our resources and time to make the new site entirely about you. Whether finding things to do, checking out our articles and special sections, getting involved in the community message boards, or taking advantage of one of our products, the choice is up to you. After years of reviewing feedback (focus groups, thousands of phone calls and email) and planning, we're now in beta to improve the overall experience of Active.com.

We've also received several questions on the topic of new post notifications. There has been an official request to develop more obvious notification of new messages. We expect to see this in site updates later this year. For now, the home page for each forum (e.g. Official Baseball Rules home) displays the latest posts as well as posts with new replies (the text "updated" will display next to the thread name). The newest reply to a thread will always be the last post listed in this new format.

Also, here is a link that shows some options on how to quickly check out the latest reply: http://community.active.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/23635-1530/boards.JPG?tstart=0&start=15 You can click the "last post" link on the parent thread, subscribe to the RSS feed or by email (on left navigation). I hope this helps.

Please continue to let us know what you think--what you like and what you believe could be improved. We are working hard to make sure that our user's experience is a positive one.

Thank you,
Trish

Hi Trish - I'm getting a text box now after deleting history, cache, and all cookies with "active" and/or "eteamz" in them. If it fails again I'll let you know via e-mail.
