Deadwood Marathon (6/3/07)

Has anyone ever ran the Deadwood Marathon or Half marathon? My husband and I are planning a trip this summer to SD and WY and I just happen to check to see if there were any Marathons in that area and found this one.

Some reviews I read have been very positive. Beautiful course that is mostly a trail marathon through the black hills. Since I am running the Country Music Marathon 4/28/07 it would be basically doing this race for fun (and knocking out SD in my 50 states list). Also this race is in higher elevation which only adds to the challenge of the first 13 miles being uphill.

It's so weird, now we plan our vacations around Marathons in different parts of the country. It just wouldn't be a vacation to me anymore if there wasn't a race included!

Re: Deadwood Marathon (6/3/07)
The year before I did this race, there was snow at the top (the 13.1 mile mark). So, I dutifully dressed for snow. Except that there was no snow. It got up to 95 degrees that day.

Moral: take all kinds of clothes with you and don't pick what you need until you've reviewed the forecast the night before.

Deadwood is a cool place too, if you don't mind the fact that many things are casinos.

I like this race a lot. I'd do it more often if it wasn't the same weekend as several other neat races.
