TC 1 mile - Minneapolis

I'm thinking about doing the Twin Cities 1 mile road race [/URL" target="_blank"> this year, which is being held on Thursday, May 3rd. I was wonding if anybody else is planning on it. I'd have to travel from Chicago to Minneapolis, but since there aren't any decent 1 mile road races in this area, I think I'd be willing to do it. Does anybody have any information as to whether this is a well-organized race?

Re: TC 1 mile - Minneapolis
I ran it in each of the previous years. The first year the course was a bit winding and rough, last year the course was a bit better. However it is not a straight shot down the road. There are two right angles in the first part of the course and then some bends down the rest of the route. Unless you are in the elite wave, the race is run in waves based on the age groups and some of them were pretty crowded, so if you aren't in the front you will not get a good time. I am not sure what you are looking for, but I enjoyed the race the last two years and I will probably run it again this year. I won't be traveling as far as you will but I live about 80 miles from Minneapolis and I will still go down for it.

I have never done it before, but plan to try it this year.

From what I hear of the course, not necessarily one to go for a PR on -- should be fun anyway...

Rice Street Mile in Saint Paul is in July (I think). Supposed to be fairly quick (downhill finish).

I think there might be another in Burnsville or Lakeville in the summer -- but that's just off the top of my head.

I am TRYING to get the city to organize one during our Lion's softball tourney this summer -- so far no luck.

I think there are several mile races in Wisconsin during the summer, although I don't have that information. Have you tried looking on Active for mile races in the neighboring states? I see there is one in Madison at the end of july. keep checking the other surrounding states.

Re: TC 1 mile - Minneapolis
On July 28, 2007, they are holding a 1 mile race in St. Paul. Its a part of the Rice Street Festival. You run down Rice Street, naturally, just before the Festival's parade. Last year it looks like they split the males and females into two seperate races. The winning male time was 4:07. I dont believe it has many racers but it is a part of the Minnesota Distance Runner's Assocation Grand Prix series. Not sure its worth the drive from Chicago. As an aside, the race start right at Mama's Pizza-one of my all time favorite restaurants. Stop in and say hi to the owner Tony if you run the race. Good luck

I'll probably run the TC1.

The Rice Street Mile is a good little local race. There are maybe 60 guys who run it and I was about 15th with a 4:46.

Re: TC 1 mile - Minneapolis
I ran the Rice Street Mile a couple years ago. It was a fun race. The course is a straight shot down the road and the course was reasonably flat. I don't remember how many people ran it but it wasn't too crowded. It was also fun running down the parade route with all the spectators there. And afterward we got to watch the parade. Unfortunately the people didn't seem to be too interested in the race. I tried to get the crowd near where I was standing to cheer when the women's race went by but they didn't seem to understand why they should care.

Re: TC 1 mile - Minneapolis
I used the TC 1 mile to get an entry into the TC10 mile last year. This year I plan on doing the marathon and so I will wait to register. I don't want to take an auto entry for the ten mile away from some one who would need it.
