Is anyone seriously going to do WS in 2015. I will. My plan is to stop running short distances in college by not doing track/xc there. Im going to switch over to an Ironman in fall of freshman year (2009). Then go to marathoning to run Boston in spring of freshman year (2010). Then build up to the JFK 50 miler in November 2010. I'll stay at the 50M and 100K distance in 2010 and 2011. Then in the spring of my junior year I'll go for an "easy" 100M. Train for a year and come back for WS in 2013. I think that's my race for life. My goal will be to get a buckle for the 2015 race.

believe it or not folks, i'm actually running again, not just jawing off on online forums and playing poker. This is about my half dozenth (thats a word right?) comeback attempt, so we'll see how long it really lasts. My main immediate motivation, of course, being to make a run at my highly beatable marathon PR (3:28)....and hopefully drop another few toenails in the process. Given the vast amount of time i spent being a couch potato and working on my keg, and the magnitude of fitness I lost as a result, this will take at least a year's worth of consistent training to work.....but it's doable. I would estimate my 100% max potential, max effort, max favorable circumstances performance to be somewhere in the low 2:50s, but that would be a few years away IF i can somehow keep myself consistently fit for that long. As far as time goals go, the one I really want to hit is <3:11 for the BQ. Right now I'm still at the point where i'm thrilled about being able to complete 30 minutes.......compared to my ultimate peak when anything under 60 felt short. It's all about the baby steps. At least I'm only 22, so I have a lot of peak time to ride things out......and 8 years to have enough endurance to crawl my way through 100.2 miles in <30:00:00.
I trust everyone else is tapering already?
Lol, yep. I've been training flat out for 19 years, so I think now's about the time to start my taper:P
But seriously, I'm going to race half marathons until I can go sub 1:10 (which will probably never happen:P and even if it does, it won't be for about 8 years:P), and until then I'm staying away from full marathons and beyond.

and is it true that after you train for an ultra like this then your 10k and under racing life is over?? Can you ever get your speed back after training for something like this??
Of course. <10k races rely heavily on your VO2 max. You'll neglect this aspect of training when training for ultras in preference for pure endurance and a high lactate threshold, however, it's very easy to get back. You can max out your VO2 max (get it to the highest level your genetics will allow) in a matter of months and then your speed will return.
