xc or track?

Just wondering...which do u ppl like better, xc or track?

XC for me, and for almost everybody on my team who does both.
im not too fond of running around in circles...i feel like a hamster or something esp in winter in the 3000 - 15 laps can be horrible!!

Re: xc or track?
It's all about the XC. More of a team thing, less serious, everyone just gets muddy and has a good time.

Re: xc or track?
I'm a tracksta, definately. It's just way more competitive, and I like the fact that there's more of a crowd than in xc. Plus, I've always loved the speed whether I was competing or watching.

Re: xc or track?
I'm a coach of many years experience, and I've come to this conclusion:

Track helps distance runners for XC more than the other way around. The intensity of racing on the track at shorter distances and becoming faster makes a huge difference when XC season comes around.

On the other hand, strangely enough, I've noticed that sprinters who run XC gain a great deal of benefit from their XC background. Not that it makes them faster, but allows them to train harder and recover from races faster when racing multiple races in a single meet.

Re: xc or track?
Doesn't this question always seem to be around? Everybody asks this question, everybody knows XC's better. Track's ok, but its just like practice for 5 months waitin for summer, then a little break then training some more for XC. XC is Life

Re: xc or track?
I'm gonna have to agree with sparks on this one. Most of our XC guys just do track to stay in shape for XC. Running in circles can get pretty boring, espescially in indoor track where i have run as many as 22 laps for the 3200! The atmosphere and team unity of XC is definetly better as well.

Re: xc or track?
I would have to say that it deals with your team mates and settings. In high school I favored track over XC, We really didn't have a real competitive XC team, I was the only one that could run decent. My track team was much more competitive and I love competition. In college though my team is much larger, about 10 distance runners compared to about 5 in high school, Most of them are pretty good, and it makes training that much better, but this is my 1st season in college and I haven't experienced outdoor season yet, I get to run the 10,000m.

Re: xc or track?
track rules. but xc is ok. i think i like the competition more in tack. i mean aiming for that state qualifying time is always a great goal.

GO X-C! I don't know why, but I meet more friends in X-C, and you don't get dizzy doing cross- country.

i dk...i always thought that xc was more fun than track in high school but my freshman year of college, i didnt enjoy xc that much....

ha! i used to the 3000 on a 160 meter track in high school..that track was soo tiny that the many many laps went by soo quickly...too quick to think about it...
my college coach doesnt make me run the 3000 which is good bc i hated running the 2 mile in high school...

Re: xc or track?
High school XC is better for the team camraderie as almost everyone has previously stated. However, if you run 3200m and nothing else, it's hard to find a better way to spend your whole Saturday than at a high school track meet.

In Texas, it was almost always the 1st event. I was done racing by 10:30 am, and the bus didn't leave till after the mile relay around 6pm or later. That leaves alot of time for getting in a long slow cooldown, sneaking into the pool at a local motel, catching some rays, and coming back to the track and talking to fit chics.
