Are you male or female? male
Why/how did you start running? To supplement my weight training
Do you still run for the same reason? Not in the least
What does running do for you? (relax you, get you out of the house, challenge you) It provides me with both long and short term goals that require self-discipline...that and I can eat some junk food and not feel like a heel.
How often do you run? 5 X/week
How long have you been running for? 20 + miles per week for 8 months
Are your friends/family fellow runners? Some, but not all. In fact, only a few.
Do you participate in races/events? If so, what kind? A 5k here and there. Running a half marathon in the spring in Ireland though!
Have you changed as a person since you started running? If so, then how? Yes - I truly believe I am more stringent with striving too meet my goals in my life outside of running
Do you believe that there?s a ?running community?? do runners make up a culture? Uhhh...ummm..I dunno

Re: hey...running survey for a school project
Here ya go!

How old are you? 19
Are you male or female? Female
Why/how did you start running? I was always active in high school, but then gained my freshman 15 in college, and wanted to shed a few pounds. My friends mom runs, and she got me into racing and stuff.
Do you still run for the same reason? I still am hoping to lose weight, but now I really love just getting out there to run.
What does running do for you? Relieves stress/gets my mind off of things, helps me acheieve goals that I've set.
How often do you run? 4-5 times a week.
How long have you been running for? About 3 months now, seriously.
Are your friends/family fellow runners? I have some friends that run, but they are all in their upper 30's. My sister will also run with me once in awhile.
Do you participate in races/events? If so, what kind? I've done a couple 5K's and a 5-miler. I am training for a half-marathon in the spring!
Have you changed as a person since you started running? If so, then how? I used to blow off working out all of the time with silly excuses, but now I have so many reasons to get out there and run. If I don't feel like doing a long run, I'll just say, "Ok, I'll do two miles", but then I usually end up running double that, or more. I like to push myself now, see what I can acheive.
Do you believe that there?s a ?running community?? do runners make up a culture? I really do think there is a running community. I recently went to a race that was very small and local, and I didn't know anyone. By the end of the race, there was a pig roast and a band, and I had met so many great people. Running really does bring people together; there is so much support!
Do you run solo or with others most of the time? At school I usually run alone, but when I'm home on breaks, I'll sometimes run with my sister or friends.
Could I tell that you?re a runner by looking at your diet? My diet is extremely healthy, and you could probably tell that I'm a runner. I try to get plenty of protein and of course my carbs!
Do you log or keep track of your running? Definitely! I log all my runs, and what I eat throughout the day.
What other interests do you have? I love to hike, play soccer, figure skate, play hockey, snowboard, wakeboard, read, knit, bake, travel, bikram yoga, pilates, and be with my family!
Do your peers know that you run? Are you a ?runner?? Many friends know that I'm a runner, and I'm proud of it!

Re: hey...running survey for a school project
How old are you?
~16 years old and a junior

Are you male or female?
~Female

Why/how did you start running?
~I started running because the guys that I hang out with all ran and I decided that if they could do it, then so could I.

Do you still run for the same reason?
~Umm...yes and no. I still run to prove people wrong but I also run because I love the sense of accomplishment when I finish a race or a practice.

What does running do for you? (relax you, get you out of the house, challenge you)
Running is my therapy. When I'm totally stressing out or having a really bad day, I know that once I'm done running, I'll be much better.

How often do you run?
I run anywhere between 4-6 times a week during xc season and summer, but I'm not sure what I'll do this winter (it's really cold where I live). I'm going to try to run like 3 or so times a week up at the local college.

How long have you been running for?
~I've been runnng track since 7th grade, but this is the first year that I'm taking the running seriously. I also opted to run xc full time instead of play basketball.

Are your friends/family fellow runners?
~The majority of the people that I hang out with are pretty serious about their running, including my brother. My parents don't run, but I have relatives that do. The whole running aspect kinda allows for a special bond between us.

Do you participate in races/events? If so, what kind?
~I love road races. It really doesn't matter what kind of race. My friends and I travel all over during the summer, going to different road races. It's so much fun.

Have you changed as a person since you started running? If so, then how?
~Yeah, I'd say that running has changed me as a person. I'm more goal oriented and I think that I'm more determined.
I'm also a lot more thankful. As I run, I can't help but think about all the people who can't run, and I thank God that He has given me the ability to run.

Do you believe that there?s a ?running community?? do runners make up a culture?
~Ummm.......Yeah, I think that there's a running community. Us runners are a whole different breed.

Do you run solo or with others most of the time?
~I run solo most of the time, but I do enjoy running with a friend on occasion.

Could I tell that you?re a runner by looking at your diet?
~Yes and no. Most of the time I try to stay away from junk food and pop, but there are times that I just gotta pig out.

Do you log or keep track of your running?
~I always start to keep one, but then I forget about it. I should really try to keep one though.

What other interests do you have?
~I like to watch movies, go to the beach, play poker, surf the web, read, and hang out with family and friends.

Do your peers know that you run? Are you a ?runner??
Yes, my peers know that I run. Some think that I'm stupid for putting myself through the pain. I don't care. I'm probably not a "runner", but I'm trying really hard to be one.

How old are you? 16

Are you male or female? female

Why/how did you start running? i was going through the "my dad's my hero" phase (still not quite over that), and he ran, so sometimes ran with him.
Do you still run for the same reason? No

What does running do for you? It gives me something to obsess over, and i think i am a competitive person, so it lets me competitive in a good way, more with myself than with anyone else, but t still compertition. It also does relax you, and having something your passionate about really can raise your confidence level. Ohh yea, and i really cant imagine my life without my xc/track team, so this is a biggy too.

How often do you run? 6 or 7 days a week

How long have you been running for? i've been pretendin to run since 4th grade, but started really caring about 2 years ago (9th grade)

Are your friends/family fellow runners? Well my dad, and i actually hae noticed that most of my friends that i am closest to are the xc team. It helps that they are the people i consistantly see the most, but i have kind of gravitated towards my running friends more than anyone else

Do you participate in races/events? If so, what kind? well, i am a highschool runner, so high school meets

Have you changed as a person since you started running? If so, then how? Umm... i cant really remember not running, but i think i would be a lot wimpier a person if i didnt run

Do you believe that there?s a ?running community?? do runners make up a culture? hmm... well the xc team is really close, so we can in a sense make up a little cliche in out school

Do you run solo or with others most of the time? some timese solo, but mostly i do prefer running with a group/ other person

Could I tell that you?re a runner by looking at your diet? No, not really, i sometimes go paranoid about the protein thing, but that doesnt limit the cookies/ oreo/ ex... intake

Do you log or keep track of your running? no, takes the fun out of it

What other interests do you have? acting, writing, history, drawing (doodling)

Do your peers know that you run? Are you a ?runner?? yes, my peers are runners too though. if being a "runner" means you spend every waking (well if i could remember my dreams, probably every sleeping hour too) thinking about running, than yes. No i exaggerate, but i really do like running a lot

How long have you been running for?
About 2 years

Are your friends/family fellow runners?

Do you participate in races/events? If so, what kind?
Usually the ones my team goes to, but sometimes, especially during the summer or holidays, I pick out some of my own.

Have you changed as a person since you started running? If so, then how?
I have more energy, am happier, more in shape, more athletic and strong. Generally I think I'm just a better person.

Do you believe that there?s a ?running community?? do runners make up a culture?
Yep. You know there's a community when you're having trouble in a race and a complete stranger you don't even know gives you advice or when you're running and another runner smiles and waves at you.
Do you run solo or with others most of the time?
Solo usually.

Could I tell that you?re a runner by looking at your diet?

Like mentally.

Do you believe that there?s a ?running community?? do runners make up a culture?
Yep, I can almost always tell if someone's a runner or not. Runners are just really really weird people.... In a good way, of course. ( :

I have one friend who I run with during the off season (sometimes two) and I run with my team during the season.

Why/how did you start running?
It's the only sport my lack of coordination doesn't hurt my performance in too much, so I did it once in 8th grade and got hooked.

Do you still run for the same reason?
Yeah, because I'm addicted, and too far in to let myself out now even if I wanted too.

I'm more tolerant of physical discomfort and more disciplined, which is a lot of difference from me before running.

Do you believe that there?s a ?running community?? do runners make up a culture?
I think so - people who partake in a sport where you run in a straight line as fast as you can for a long way are very unique people. They rise to these arbitrary challenges and get a thrill from seeing the times drop that the bumbling public doesn't get.

Do you run solo or with others most of the time?
With the team in season, solo otherwise.
