What would you do?

So next year, I have the choice - either soccer or cross country. Technically, I am a lot better at running distance than playing soccer, but my heart is into soccer (not to mention my friends play it too) but I would DO BETTER (with respect to personal accomplishments) running? what would you do?

someone on our team had the same problem. he did both, which i thought was crazy, but he managed to do it, he had to leave XC right after the run so he could get to soccer on time

Do what you love doing. So that years from now, when you're too old to be a superstar anymore, you'll still love it.

Do what you enjoy. Besides, it's a lot easier to get into solo sports (like running) than it is to do team sports after high school/college.

Re: What would you do?
I'm having the same problem as you! Next fall, I can either do football or cross country. Last year, I tried to do both but couldn't do it. It wore me out physically within the first week. I'm 99.9% sure I'm doing football as I've been doing that for several years. I love running, but I also love football. It's a tough decision, but I figure I can run anytime I want to and there's always track in the spring to look forward to.

Well, if its any help, you can only play football (realistically) for a short period of your life, but you can run for most of it. You can always take up running later.

Success isn't important when you're not happy.

Do the one that will make you happy.

Re: What would you do?
I know of someone in Illinois who played soccer through high school, but then had the same dillema as yours at the beginning of his senior year. He chose XC, think he ran about a 15:09 at state.

I would run cross country if your good at it don't give it up. They probably have tryouts for soccer any ways so you should know if your good enough to make it.

Do BOTH
someone on our xc team managed to play soccer, and be on varsity XC at the same time! it was tough, but he managed, he would set a pr in a 5k, then go play a soccer game!

Re: What would you do?
don't play a sport just because your friends are playing it.

well, now that i think about that statement, it may not apply to all. i am somewhat of a quiet person, so i don't mind not being surrounded by friends all the time. i quit softball and left a bunch of good friends and joined track and LOVED it, despite the fact that i didn't really have any friends. and i wasn't sitting on the bench anymore. i guess it depends on your personality and situation.
