bragging about your kids!?!?!

i'm not trying to sound craby or anything, but i thought this was about teen running. tons of these posts are just parents bragging up there kids. yeah, i know you are proud of them, & that is really great that you are into it & care. BUT SEIOUSLY, are you into it b/c you want to relive glory you never had or b/c u truly are happy for them. if my parents ever came on here & started writing about how wonderful my times are for my age & everything i would get very irritated.

thanks....i just had to say that b/c its really been bothering me!

Props to that! I've been noticing that a lot too. It's like, seriously, get a life people. Why don't you go outside and run a few miles with your kids instead of sitting in front of a computer bragging about your 10-year old's great performance at the local race last Saturday. Do I really care that a 10-year old beats my 5K time even though I am 5 years older? No. This is a place meant for teen runners, and I guess if a "seasoned" runner wants to pop in and post wisdom, tips, then great! But don't use it as a place to brag about your kids...us teens do not care and frankly your kids are gonna get tired of you mighty quickly. Reserve that for the Clubhouse where none of the other parents there will tire of your endless bragging. But not here. Please.

Re: bragging about your kids!?!?!
Well let's see, when the topics are an 11 year-old asking what the average time for a mile for someone her age is, then of course I'm going to answer since my daughter is about that age...10. She's not going to get any responses if she's waiting for another 11-year old to answer because there are no other 11-year olds here! The 11-year old doesn't care what you 17-year old HS mile times are because they should be way faster than an 11-year olds.

Another topic is asking if they're too young to run a 5K. Well I think again it's perfectly fine for me to answer that question as well since my daughter is younger than that and runs 5K's. I'm not bragging...I'm realistically answering the questions posed by other posters here that I feel qualified to answer.

If you don't like a post, then just do what everyone else does...ignore it! If you don't like anyone but high schoolers posting here, then email coolrunning and ask them to create another forum for kids younger than HS and another one for college age kids...as of now I don't see any other forum for those ages besides this one.

BTW I think the 20 or so MPW I run with my daughter already is plenty for her at that age, so I don't need to stop posting here now to go run with her. But since you high schoolers seem to think we need to get a life, what about you? Don't you have homework to do, friends to see, chores to do? Not to mention increasing your running mileage to 50+ MPW so maybe you can start beating those 10-year olds you're obviously jealous of? Instead "SoFarGone" you are here starting threads about your parents (Those darn parents) that are not exactly flattering. You teens get irritated at most ANYTHING your parents say, don't you? That's just normal for that age...you think you know it all and parents are nothing but irritants trying to make your lives miserable. Someday, you'll grow up and realize differently...hopefully. Perhaps if your parents had done more activities with you when you were younger, you wouldn't feel that way about them now...think about that one for a bit and try not to act so jealous because that's how it looks.

!?!wtf!?!
Okay, I feel extremely lame commenting back and getting mad at some adult I have never and will probably never meet in my life...but seriously, you're a little off base on that one. First off, OBVIOUSLY my thread about my parents wasn't flattering! Would you compliment your parents on the fact that they fail to understand xc though u try to explain it to them and the fact that they plain just don't even care that you run?! I think not.

Also, as I said before, it is much appreciated for an older and seasoned runner to give advice! Did I say you were bragging when you answered the question about being too young to run a 5K? No! It's awesome that you give advice about that kind of stuff. But there are some parents in here (not necissarily you!) who DO come off as bragging and it does annoy me somewhat.

This is getting way longer than I intended...but seeing as it's 11:20 pm and I'm one of those cool kids who doesn't go out partying and getting drunk at this hour, I mis well talk about jealousy. You say I come off as jealous? NO! Annoyed is more like it. There are quite a few runners younger than me in my school's cc program who ARE faster than me. What do I do? Sit in a corner and mope about how bad they beat me, right? No. I cheer them on and recognize their talent and am glad to have them on board. It's when the parents start acting like their kid is gonna be the next big thing, well that annoys me.

Oh, BTW...Thanks mep5555 for automatically assuming that I have a terrible relationship with my parents, and thanks SO MUCH for putting me into the typical my-parents-suck-screw-you-I-know-everything-now-go-f*ck-off teen mold. Maybe you should've taken your own advice, and if you didn't like my response to rainyrunning, ignore it. But it's clear you felt the utmost need to defend yourself and other parents that you had to go and talk to me like the b*tchy-little-fifteen-year-old-who-knows-nothing-about-the-world-girl-that-I-am. I'll just go crawl back into my little hole now and hate on you and my parents. It's what all the teens do, right?

One more thing, mep5555, did you even bother to read my post about "those darn parents"...or did you just look at the title and assume that it was another "OMG! I lyk hate my pAreNTs they lyk don't uNDerStAnD me and it lyk sucks" kind of posts?!

Sorry rainyrunning for turning your thread into something not quite "pleasant". But, hey, you generated some talk, right? ;-)

Re: bragging about your kids!?!?!
OK both of you...tell me what threads here in this topic have the posts you are talking about???? Because I do not see ANY posts at all on page 1 (which goes back over 2 weeks) that fit what you're describing.

The only topic where parents posted their kids' times was the one started by the 11-year old wanting to know average times in the mile for someone that age. Since my daughter is near that age, I responded with her times and said that they were better than average...I don't know what average is. One other parent also posted their son's time as well in a recent meet. Obviously those posts weren't bragging...they were helping to answer the question and were 2 of the very few replies that may have been helpful to the original poster. SoFarGone...you felt a need to reply in that thread as well but certainly said nothing to help answer the original poster's question.

So again I ask, where in this forum are all these posts you 2 speak about...please let me know as I have not found them? I don't know how I'm missing them as rainyrunning says there are TONS of them here...

Re: bragging about your kids!?!?!
Posted in a thread "how quick can you guys run the mile..." by a 15-year old, how's this reply gonna help him?
Proud dad of an eight year old who just ran a 6:15 mile. He likes to run and play soccer. At the start of the track season he was around 7:00.

Same thread, there's another reply about an 8-year old, that isn't gonna really help the 15 year old now is it...
My 8 year old son just beat his personel record for the mile, 6:22, he also ran a 1:22 for the 400M on the same night. He loves the competition of trying to pass the older kids running so that helps.

Then you posted this, mep5555, which yes, it does answer the question posed by the 5th grader, but then you had to keep going on about who can or cannot beat your daughter...
My 4th grade daughter's fastest mile is 7:20 (but probably could be a few seconds faster). No other 9-year old Oklahoma female ran a faster 5K than her last year (24:21), and no 10-year old OK female has run faster than her 24:27 so far this year. There are several girls 1-2 years older than her who can beat her though. There is one other 10-year old from down in the southern part of the state (in a town with lots of GREAT young female runners (12-13) who may eventually run a faster 5K than my daughter this year...she's already beaten her at the 3K distance late last year.

Like, you actually keep track of the other 10 year-old runners in the area, and their PR's along with your daughter's PR's? At that age, wouldn't you just be glad that your daughter has an interest in running at all? You're so quick with all these statistics about your daughter, and your daughter's competition...when she should just enjoy running period. Because once she gets to H.S. there will be enough pressure about times, etc, believe me.

I'm sure you'll say that these 3 examples didn't prove my point at all...whatever...there's probably more but I have wasted way too much time on this thread and I have "homework to do, friends to see, and chores to do" and miles to run. I'm through with it. Have a nice day.

Re: bragging about your kids!?!?!
rainyrunning posted this topic yesterday. Those posts were made months ago...like I said, they're not on page 1 of this forum. The one from me was 3 months ago, and the most recent of the others was 1 1/2 months ago. Ignore the posts you don't want to read and move on...and don't complain about posts made months ago. I skip over plenty of posts made on other forums every day because I don't care about the topic...I certainly don't start a complaint over posts made months ago. It's also not too hard to see where anyone ranks...the runningusa.com website ranks all times for any distance, age, and gender...no need to keep track...

here is something to think about, all the races Ive seen and ran put everybody 19 and under into the same catagory. So basically 17 year olds and 11 year olds are the same age. Oh and by the way it is more like 60 or 70 MPW.

There are lots of races that separate age groups into 2 year increments with the youngest group being 10 and under. Almost any youth track club or running club will participate in these kinds of meets, usually track and cross-country. Most road races will have one age group of 19 and under

Re: bragging about your kids!?!?!
Depends on the part of the country you're in. Fortunately here in OK, they realize 19/under age groups for 5K are not fair to younger runners, and most races are 8/under, 9-12, 13-15, 16-19. In other states we've ran in, Arkansas has 9/under, 10-14, etc. for most races...Illinois is variable, but the races we ran in one had 10/under, 11-14 etc. and the other had 14/under. In Ohio, the one we ran has 12/under. In Wisconsin, the one we ran last year had 19/under, but changed to 13/under this year.

Also as captainwildcat says...if she's 11 and running track, the age groups for people that young are 10/under, 11-12, 13-14, etc. for any organized youth track meets.

Re: bragging about your kids!?!?!
yikes, take a long deep breath parents. Yeah we love that you are proud of your kids, what parents arent but - this is a forum for teens if you had a question about something then go to the basic training section. No offense but there are so many other areas in this forum for you to post, even with Jeff Galloway himself. My parents had a question when I first started out this year and he responded no prob. As my wise old grand pa says - Don't get your panties in a wad - just relax. We teens are just stating a fact. Maybe we get enough of the bragging from listening on the sides. Chill - peace

What fact are you stating??? The original poster posted something that is 100% not true as anyone can verify from looking at all the posts here.

The fact I have stated here is that ZERO parents did anything even remotely resembling bragging here in the past 45 days before this topic was posted. That is a FACT.

I haven't seen any parents ask questions here either...I've seen them try to ANSWER questions that others have posted here...those others are sometimes teens and sometimes a bit older and younger than teens.

This post is no longer about bragging...it really never was since it really was never happening here...it is about what is fact and what isn't. If there's any bragging in any of the posts here anytime recently, it's been done by you teens and not their parents...read more closely and you'll see it's the TEENS doing the bragging...it's NOT their parents posting.

You're right it is the teens bragging about themselves on their personal forum. So you should stop posting on a forum that does not concern you and have your daughter come on to brag about herself rather than you doing it for her.
