Hate track, Love XC??

i run cross country and track. and in track my event is the 2 mile. so really there's only a half mile distance between my cross country and track races. And, the kids on cross country are basically the same kids on track.
But.... i love cross country with my life, and i really don't enjoy track all that much. anyone else??

Re: Hate track, Love XC??
That is very common. Most people seem to like the idea of running in the woods (nature) vs. running in circles on the track and some like the team aspect which is usually stronger in cross-country than it is in track. Also, XC is in the summer-fall when the weather in most places is a little cooler by the end of the season and more comfortable to run in, but track is in the spring and early summer when it is getting hot and les comfortable to run in just as you're doing the hardest work. I am/was unusual b/c I like track better, I like having people cheer every lap and knowing my exact pace. Not to mention I could watch my teammates and cheer for them, instead of racing against them (when I wasn't running the same events, of course) Plus track is all about being fast and if you're a competitive runner isn't that the point.

I have always loved XC workouts and the training I do during that season. Probably something to do with the trails, and the weather. However when it comes to racing, I love track. Soemthing about the speed that is a little more appealing to me I think.

Re: Hate track, Love XC??
i love XC but hate track. i find that in track i get even more nervous at the starting line then i do at an XC race. i think its because everyone's eyes are on you constantly and they can see every mistake that you make. in XC you can go off into the woods and no one is watching you run except for the other runners.

I like both. I like the nature aspect of xc but iI also love pole vaulting which I can only do in track.

Re: Hate track, Love XC??
yeah i like xc a lot better too...in track i hate knowing exactly how much more i have left to run....it pshcyes(sp?) me out and i end up running WAYYYYY too slow....my xc 2 mile splits are so much faster than my actual 2 mile race on the track...ahh! it frusturates me so thats why i like xc better
(this post made me sound stupid)

Don't you run/walk the course before you race? It's a good way to warm up and get to know the course before you race it.
I think it's especially important if it's on trails, not so much when it's on a golf course.
