Cross Country Camp

I'm going to croos country camp in afew days and i don't really know what to bring. I got all the usual stuff(shoes, running gear, wactch, etc) is there anything that would help make the experience better since the dorm rooms are small and hot?

I don't know about you, but if I traveled anywhere (especially to these hot, cramped dorm rooms that you speak of) without my music, I would probably go insane.

Also, if you're allowed, bring some tasty yet compact munchies, perfect for late-night snacking. And a flashlight. And a deck of cards. And your toothbrush dangit! (I really hope I didn't need to remind you about that last one).

Aye, almost forgot. Ziplocs. Bring 'em. Seriously. Bring a few small ones and one or two gallon sized ones. They're great for storing little things that get lost easily, and perfect for wet swimsuits, etc.

Re: Cross Country Camp
lots and lots of socks. two pairs of running shoes, if you have them, just in case it rains and you have to run again before they get a chance to dry. lots of bandaids and athletic tape...if your camp is anything as brutal as mine was, you'll be gettting blisters. don't be afraid to pop, then cover w/a bandaid...the athletic tape will keep the bandaid from coming off during your next run, and you can also cover blister-prone spots on your feet with it before the blisters actually pop up. if there's a common bathroom, bring lysol, you'll want it...if you get your own bathroom, well, youre being spoiled and im jealous. bathing suit, quarters for laundry (clothes will get dirty fast), dvd's if youll have access to a dvd player, and board games, because trust me, you will get bored. scattergories was always a hit with my team.

ah, cross country camp...memories....its **** but it's a fun ****, at least thats how mine was. no camp this summer, i graduated...

enjoy it while you can!

If your shoes get wet a little trick I learned is to stuff them with newspaper. Sure your socks will end up covered in ink but they're probably already dirt-stained already.

And where is the Prof off to school next year?
Most universities will have a summer camp/training camp sort of deal.

the college of new jersey. we do have a preseason camp that starts before school does, but ive heard it's nothing brutal, basically the same kind of training we've been doing all summer. no twice a day runs or anything. plus we'll be in our own dorms, which will be clean compared to high school xc camp and wont be nearly as cramped as having 10 girls in a single room, no matter how small the dorms are.

that said...camp could very well be difficult, for me, at least, because my milage so far this summer is about half what it's supposed to be, and my speed is nothing to brag about either. 2 sprained ankles in a month will do that to you, though. ive rehibilitated this sprain properly, and im easing back into what my coach scheduled...but, yesterday i was dead after a 2mi tempo in 14:55! this time last summer i was doing 5mi runs at a pace faster than that. to make the team, i need to do 2mi on the track in under 13:00, which SHOULD be a piece of cake but definately won't be. i have 2 1/2 weeks on my own to get into that kind of shape, plus a week at camp, before tryouts...im more than a little worried.

oh, and P.S. mhtrack--i know someone already suggested this, but bring food. the food at my camp sucked majorly and we had an entire 5- or 6-shelf bookshelf stocked with junk food. mind you, not horrible junk food...you dont want your runs to be fueled entirely by salt and simple sugars...but stuff like pretzels, fruit cups, maybe some rolls or bread and peanut butter, raisins, crackers, baked chips. special k cereal bars are the best, and fairly healthy...any kind of cereal bar or granola bar works. or powerbars, if youre into that kind of stuff. you may have to be a bit sneaky with your food if you dont want all of the other teams stealing it.
