Teens Trying to Get In Shape (Weight Loss)

Hey guys, I wasn't sure if there were any teens out there who were working on getting in shape. For me, I've been trying for a while to get a 6 pack to show. I've been dieting all of August so far. I didn't know if anyone (guys or girls) who wnated to start a thread to share experience or whatnot. Just post if you're interested. Thanks.

I just don't eat food. That way you don't have to be that muscular to have the ol' 6 pack showing up. I've been ripped since I was like 16 but that's also because I've never weighed much over 135lbs.
So my suggestion to you is to stop eating food.

I never bothered doing ab workouts, but some of my friends have six-packs and they are 15. When they were doing a sit up ******* contest they got up into the hundreds before I gave up on paying attention. One of my friends says he does 100 sit-ups a day, I tell him he is crazy.

When I started running I picked up weight training too, just to build a little bulk, I went from bench pressing 70 pounds (once) to being able to bench 120 (once) in a few months training every other day, as well as going from 270 to 410 on the leg press.

Ben, how old are you?

You may not like this answer but if you are in your mid or even later teens, the key to abs may just be time.

I have a younger brother who was just tiny until he hit 18-19 and then all of a sudden the hormones he needed for muscle building kicked into gear. Before a certain age it can be very hard for certain individuals to gain the muscle mass needed for abs to show and shoulders to grow etc. (even then you can't pick and choose which body parts will develop most ... my brother still bemoans his smaller calves). And to get those story book abs you seen in magazines, you need not only hard abs but quite well developed ones too.

So, I would give it time and most importantly give your body the nutrition it needs to mature properly. Muscles need protein to develop (fruit only may keep you lean but how will those abs grow?) And don't be shy about visiting a nutritionist if you aren't sure what you need ... especially if you are an active runner, you don't want to short change yourself by living off fruit.

Most runners should be capable of doing at least this with some ease. If you've been running with any kind of consistency ab-work should be a breeze.
It's important to remember that when doing ab-work you need to balance your core strength. That means back, obliques, chest, even hip flexors. While I was in decent shape my core work would include up to 500 repitions balanced between different exercises that worked different muscle groups.

I've had a six pack ( eight pack when I flex) for about a year now and I'm only 13 ( and a girl). When I was in Track last spring I was doing lyk 300-350 sit ups a day without too much effort. I haven't been doing them lately but I run and lift weights and look @ the ingredients for everything I eat. I am also a vegetarian. I have inspired a good portion of the girls on my track team to get a six pack. I still eat cookies and other stuff but only if their home made and plus I never eat more than a couple. Oh and don't diet. Trust me. Just eat healthy.

yea ive been trying for a while and i have the outline of a 4 pack. i still need to lose a little wieght for them to really pop out. my question is how do you get the bottom two out. i do crunches and twists, but they only help the top ones, do leg lifts tone the bottom ones?

I think 6-packs are a result of low body fat, and pretty much just that. It might look better if you do 100 situps a day, but not a whole lot. If you have 15% bodyfat and do 100 situps a day, and I have 12% and do ten a day, my six pack will be better. Why so worried about the 6 pack anyway? If you can lose more weight and still be healthy, so you can run faster, I say go for it, and I guess the 6 pack is a nice reward too. I just couldn't motivate myself for that (the six pack alone). I wear a shirt all the time though.

My advice on weight loss (perhaps not the best, but it works):
In wrestling, I'd eat a large bowl of oatmeal for breakfast with some fruit, have a meat sandwich around 11, an apple about 1, practice 3-5, and have a salad for dinner. (And drink lots of water, except on the day of weigh-ins. But you should drink lots of water all the time) I'd lose 3 lbs a week fairly comfortably. (Most I ever lost was 12lbs.) If I needed to lose more I'd just go off one meal, (meaning skip dinner, and make lunch real small) or two meals (no lunch or dinner, just a salad for brekky).

madeline555- I read in my magazine that swimming the back stroke tones lower abs.

This is such a dumb topic.

but yeah if you want to loose weight not eating really does work.

It did remind me to do some ab work though

I'm trying to get back in shape too. The key though is being regular about it.

Good Luck!
