How to avoid being "burned out" for the season?

Hello, lately I've been reading a lot of posts about people being burned out when xc starts. Although I'm not in xc (track for me) I'm wondering how to prevent this so it doesn't happen to me...? How hard do you have to work to get this to happen?

I'd answer you but

A) You a cristian.
B) You Anounce that you are one.
C) You don't run XC
D) You believe that god will help you.
E) I am a godless heathen

My answer to you is why don't you go ask god.

Well, just don't over train, like be training very hard, like for a race, way before the season starts.

Ex. If you have 2 months (like it's summer) until the season, don't train like you have 2 weeks until a race.

My coach and someone I met at a camp, says progress.

I hope this helps kinda, it's hard to explain for me.

sigh unnecessary

you have to be running a lot and training pretty hard. The tough thing about it is peaking too early in the season so you gotta train smart. Symptoms are being really tired (not just after a long run, but in general), lack of motivation, when running at a normal pace seems harder, slower race/workout times. I try to be careful about my training, but I'm forced to take 5 days off cause of poison ivy. My coach only planned 2-3 but I won't lose my fitness overnight. I've been running a lot but I want to be my best in Nov.

If you're going for the track season I wouldn't worry about it now. Put in the miles, you should do a tempo run or speedwork once a week while in this phase to keep your legs fresh. Good luck, although doing Xc would help . Overtraining is not an excuse to be lazy. Some peolpe see it that way, I think. Running hard is good. hope this helped

Thanks for the tips, kjbrunner. I'd love to do XC but my bro' does football so it wouldn't work out with his games and my meets and everything. Hope your poison ivy (or brown recluse bite) goes away soon.<HR>

thanks man, i'm feeling much better today . You can't do xc because your bro does football?!?! no way! Do you have to go see his games or something or is it a ride situation?

good to see a fellow believer

Yeah, it has to do with rides. My family only has 1 car so it would be rush rush rush to everything. So since my bro is a senior (I'm only a junior) it's kinda like he gets the first pick since he's older. It sucks but track is still super cool.

Wow...that really really sucks. Isn't there a way you can get a ride from one of your teammates that lives sort-of near to you?

I'm pretty surprised how many people believe in God on this site.

oh that's rough dude... I'm guessing you live far away from your track/school/practice location? Mine is right down the street (1.5mi, so I run to practice sometimes)

well good luck if you do xc next year .

and yes, like SoFarGone mentioned can't you get a ride from a teammate or ride your bike? I get rides from teammates all the time if my dad commutes to work and leaves his car for me (we have 2 cars but 5 people)
