New wetsuit

I have just purchased a new wetsuit(QR Ultrafull) for a tri in 3 weeks and was curious if there is anything I need to do to break it in. The size is correct it just seems pretty stiff. I will only have 2 open water swims with the wetsuit prior to the race. Any advice would be great....

You shouldn't have to do anything to break a wetsuit in, other than actually swim in it. They should be a bit tight, you should feel slight discomfort while on dry land. It shouldn't be restricting any blood flow however :). The wetsuit will expand in the water. A wetsuit will stretch with use, for that reason I've heard you should really only wear it when you are ready to swim. So for that reason you shouldn't be trying to "break" it in on dry land. I think two open water swims are fine before your 1/2 ironman. It didn't sound like your suit was that tight on dry land, so I'm guessing it will be fine once you jump in. Good luck!

Do yourself a favor, on your open water practice swims, try to do the 1/2 IM distance in full. Some people are affected by a binding in the shoulders and in impedes their ability to swim. By doing the full distance you might break in the shoulders a bit if this is a problem you have, if not at least you will be used to the feeling and realize what is happening.

Other than that, enjoy the suit and good luck on your event!
