Can't decide...

...baseball or track?
Last year i played baseball, but ended up getting really out of shape for xc when the fall came around. i know track would keep me more fit, but baseball has always been my #1 sport. which should i do?

Re: Can't decide...
Well if you ask on a running forum, one would only assume the answer will be overwhelmingly track...

TRACK!

Re: Can't decide...
I agree with youngrunner, do what you like doing. If you want to keep fit for cross country, just use the time between now and when the season starts to build up a base. That'll put you in a better position to do well in cross country than if you did track and trashed your body with lots of speedwork.

If your a utility player that means you suck too much and your second string basically. They called me a utility player until I realized I sucked at baseball and killed kids in track.

No, it means you suck, or your town has less than 20 people in it you never have a full team on the field at once.

I hated it when they did that to me back in 7th grade, so I figured "Hey, if I suck at baseball, oh well" and quit. Never looked back.

Hey guys leave off. If he likes baseball and he's getting a game, what does it matter how good he is at it? Sport should be about fun, it's not meant to be a job.

Re: Can't decide...
I was a "utility player" when I first played baseball. I was in the same situation where I was good at everything. I was a good pitcher, cather, outfielder, first baseman, although I kinda sucked as an infielder. I was also a rediculous contact hitter with speed so the only way I would ever not get on base was because of a strikeout or line drive out. Sometimes because a player has no prefernece a coach will play you where he needs you for that particular game.
However to the original question, I'd say play baseball and just add in some running in your free time. Playing competitive baseball is definately one of the things I miss the most from my days as a younglin'.

Re: Can't decide...
Play catcher full time. That's what I ended up doing. It's definately the best position in baseball. You're basically the captain of the team there. And no one expects a catcher to be fast. When I played in my last few years I would walk up to the plate as the leadoff hitter and the other team would be like "what the f---"? I'd throw down a bunt for a single then steal 2 bases and the second guy would have no problem with a sac fly to bring me in. Great way to get a quick 1-0 lead in the game. The funny part would be if/when I did it again in the same game. LoL.
