Winter Training for a cross country high school runner

I am a freshmen in high school and had joined the cross country team, and now I am doing wrestling at school. So anyway I still want to keep up my training from cross country to track this spring. I love to run, and I like to run alot. I am still new at running, so any tips for running in the winter, where in Oregon it rains a lot, or any other tips for me would be good. Thanks so much will wait for your reply! Happy New Year!

i thought wrestling require a reasonable amount of running. even if your team doesnt run much, you should do it on your own. if your wrestling practice doesnt get in the way of track practice, you should practice with the track team.

Only fat people need to loose wieght.

check out my other post.

What do you think gives you the right to clog up out forum with your stupid g@y wrestling junk anyway.

Yes I think wrestling is gay. You roll around and grop other guys (or girls) in tight spandex. Why don't you just give them a friction dance.

Here's a few tips for you:
1. Take advantage of the good weather when you've got it and go for a run.
2. If it's raining hard, then you can't run, so find a cross training activity
you like, or if you have access to a treadmill, use that.
3. Make yourself a schedule which shows far you need to run on each day of the week, and make it last until spring.
4. Remember the golden rule of running "Nothing happens fast in running except injury"

Good luck with it all, and just ignore crazy1. He got beaten up by a wrestler once and has harboured a grudge ever since.

Some of my favorite and most memorable runs have been out in the rain. Don't be afraid to get your shoes wet.

Re: Winter Training for a cross country high school runner
It's allright if it's just a little drizzle, in fact I really enjoy those runs too. However, if it's absolutely bucketing down, it's just stupid to run. You'll get blisters from the increased friction coming from your wet shoes, get chafed by your wet clothes, your wet clothes will weigh you down and make it really hard to run, and not to mention the rain going straight into your eyes. I just don't think it's worth it, because the risk of getting a blister, which puny as it is on the scale of injuries can still force you to take time off running, is pretty high. You'll get a better workout inside anyway - it's not like running through rain is going to make you stronger.

1. as long as your not a dumbas,s and wear cotton and wear under armor you dont get drenched.
2. if you worried about getting the water in your eyes wear sunglasses
3. buy a 5 dollar stick of body glide and you wont worry about a thing
4. It can be very refreshing plus usally no cars, and it only ways you down if the puddle is about a foot deep and you straight through it.

Go ahead and have fun in the rain

Re: Winter Training for a cross country high school runner
1. I'm talking about serious rain here. It's impossible not to get drenched even with wicking gear because the rain will soak your clothes faster than the water leaks off.
2. Fair point, but I don't think sunglasses would work too well since they're not waterproof. You'd have to wear like swimming goggles or something:P
3. I don't think body glide would work on your feet because it would just rub off into the socks and then into your shoes and lose its effectiveness. I could be wrong though.
4. Well I guess it's a subjective judgement about whether you enjoy it or not. I hate being super cold and not being able to run properly because of wet, heavy clothes.

Lol it sucks though. Yesterday it was like 35 degrees and I had to cancel my tempo run because it was too bloody hot to run. I'm sweating just sitting at my computer:

Crazy1, your opinion on wrestling isnt wanted nor needed. Anyway, back to the topic. For winter training between XC and Track I do 40 minutes in the weight room and about a 15 minute run through the halls of my school.
