Best Ever Middle School Mile

Hey Everybody:
I'm a coach for a Jr. High in Washington and one of my kids I'm working with just ran a 4:53 and he's in 7th grade, I think he just turned 13 a couple of weeks ago. Anyways I was wondering if anybody knew what the best ever time for the 1600 for middle school or jr high. Or maybe you know some really impressive times like that, anyways thanks!

I have a very old magazine (Starting Line - 1985) with the fastest age group times for 1984. They don't list the mile but have 1500 meter times. The fastest time for thirteen was 4:26.17 wiith the tenth fastest time being 4:33.06. Hope that this helps.

I'm not sure what the fastest time ever is. But there's a 7th grader who ran a 4:32.43 at the Taco Bell Classic earlier this year. He's amazingly fast too. I think he got one of the best times at Foot Locker South too, if I recall correctly. Here's a link to a discussion about his time on dyestat.com.

I don't think these can be true. The internet is a web of lies sometimes. This sounds too much like an untruth. 4:32 Sorry, but that doesn't sound believable unless I can see a newspaper article or something from a website that has to print the truth.

I'll believe that. Look around and you'll probably see crazy times posted for kids that age or younger

I can't find a good sourse for times. But remember Alan Webb ran a 3:53.4 in high school.

Re: Best Ever Middle School Mile
That is still a very good mile time.

Tell him to keep training and he will improve drastically.

Well thank you. I still can't believe it though. Hopefully he doesn't burn out though. He could be a great runner (not that he isn't already, but an athlete of olympic skill). Lets see how he turns out.

He's 13. He may be a little old for the grade, depending when he was born.

Re: Best Ever Middle School Mile
I have had the chance to know two outstanding middle school runners and many more that work just as hard as them.
In Texas, I ran on a summer team with a boy that has run low 4:40's, I am not sure his exact PR but he is a beast through and through.
Now, in Ohio there is an incoming freshman who in his 8th grade year ran a 4:48.
These times are definetly not the norm but are out there.
