Running w/ dog and jogging stroller doable?

Is this doable or am I being ever so hopeful, zealous? Running with 20 lb baby in jogging stroller (waiting to get one) with dog on leash? I am already a slow runner.

I guess it depends on well your dog is at staying at your side rather than trying to move from one side to the other and getting tangled up in the leash. If you have a dog used to running by your side while leashed, then it's probably do-able and will likely get easier as your dog gets used to running with the jogging stroller also.

I can't tell from your post if you're waiting to get a 20 lb. baby or a jogging stroller!

I've never attempted what you're thinking of doing, but it seems to me that trying to run with a dog and a stroller is asking for trouble. What will you do if the dog sees something that he/she just has to chase and takes off, or if he/she stops short to smell a tree? The thought of it makes me a bit nervous.

I used to do that. A lot of it does depend on how good your dog is. Not a bad idea to tie the leash around your waist to prevent the dog from pulling you away from the stroller. Definitely DO NOT tie the leash to the stroller. That would get ugly if Rover takes off after a squirrel. Just be careful and take your time and all 3 of you will be fine. Have fun!

I wasn't running back then, but I did walk with baby in a stroller with our dog. The dog tended to want to heel with the stroller than with me. She never pulled, as long as she was in 'her place', I didn't care. Eventually, we worked our way up to baby in a backpack, two kids in a double stroller and another walking next to the stroller, with dog trotting alongside!

I am picturing you hooking the dog up to the stroller and running around town like you are a dog sled racer. :-)

Re: Running w/ dog and jogging stroller doable?
I do this with a wirehair fox terrier and my 34lb baby (4 yo) DD. Sometimes, my 47lb baby is in there instead (5 yo DS). My dog is very good when we are out running, but I did have to buy the metal spikey collar for her (even walking she would pull). She is very good with this and never, ever pulls and just runs along. I keep an eye out for distractions (such as another dog or squirrel) and talk to her (hopefully) before she sees it. It works pretty good. Sometimes I let my child hold the leash, they are trained to let go if she suddenly pulls. That works for us.
