running, jogging... apples, oranges...whats the difference? The bigger difference is between competative runners and recreational runners. I've been reading Running with the Buffaloes and somewhere in there is a quote from Mark Whetmore and he talks about how at the Bolder Boulder race in colorado there are thousands of people that sign up and pay $20 to run the race but only like 500 will actually be racing the course.

And they won't be the first 500 to cross the line, either.

Re: running vs. jogging: the view from the peanut gallery
running vs jogging vs racing, its all relative, my family thinks I am some big time athelete ready to tackle a marathon when I still will get passed by from some geriatic warrior walking ! Its a humbling sport and I like that, all I know that whatever i do it sure beats the **** out of vs sitting

Re: running vs. jogging: the view from the peanut gallery
Yeah, I thought I was a runner until this past Philly marathon. I ran a 3:00 marathon, pretty good I thought, finished high in my age division, almost beat Lance and felt pretty good at the end for running at 6:54 pace. But then I ran into the guy who passed me on mile 7 JUGGLING 3 tennis balls. This guy finished 4 minutes ahead of me and was proud of the fact that he never dropped a ball. I guess that means I'm an O.K. runner who needs work on juggling??

RunnersHigh, the juggling people take their juggling PRs pretty seriously. Sorry you got beaten, but that guy has probably been practicing running and juggling as hard as your own marathon training. I just can't personally imagine why anyone would want to do such a thing, but I guess everyone has to find their niche.

I really don't know the difference between a runner and a jogger, but I must admit, I don't really like to be called a jogger.

I run when I am training.
I jog when I see an attractive female who is running slower than me.
(which is often)

I meant to say; "which is NOT often". (I AM SLOW) When running, I mean.
