Re: What event are you training for?
I recently trained for a 5K and am just keeping in shape for now and trying to improve my overall time. Tonight I ran a 1 mile only and worked on a steady speed at a faster pace.

Re: What event are you training for?
Hi
Thanks for asking.
The races went well. The first one in Bismark was very cold at the start. My
ankle that I had sprained 2 weeks prior was not giving me any trouble except
I developed a blister under the bandages. The terraine was pretty flat and I
was not pushing too hard. I finished 4:31. that is my average time.
Quickly, I showered ( 1pm checkout) and hit the road. The drive was very
easy. I94W. Not more than 5 cars on the road. Got to Billings in 61/2 hrs w/
a stop for lunch and then gas. Ate dinner and slept.
the race in Billings was a bit different. started up a mountain and for the
first 9 miles it was alot of uphill and very little down. After 10 it was
alot of downhill steep on a winding road that was severely graded. Ouch for
my ankle. After 18 it was residential rolling hills but by that time my
achilles and the blister, that was now larger, were hurting. I walked / run
and finished 4:52. I was happy. I would definately do it again. I was so
geared up to do this that it was not as hard as I thought.
Next one is Oct 7th in Portland Maine.
Off to run 10 b4 work

5Ks are my favorite, too. I hope to keep running them for many years to come.

Re: What event are you training for?

Hi J-net

How was Portland Oregon? Portland Maine was beautiful. The race was very well organized and support on the course was top notch. I am sooo glad I got closed out of Chicago ( that was my original plan for that weekend). The weather was perfect. The course was a bit challenging but it will be nothing for you. I come from the flatlands of Florida. The town of Portland is wonderful: bars and stores everywhere on the waterfront, very eceletic.

Are you ready for your double? Just take it easy and you will be fine. Are you going to join the Marathon Maniac club? You will now qualify by doing 3 races in 8 days?

I am taking it easy for a bit. I am concentrating on incorporating Chi running as my running form. Very easy on the knees and hips.

Let me know how things go this weekend. I am putting Portland Oregon on my list for next Oct.

Re: What event are you training for?
Hi I am training for the Snowdonia marathon and it is my first. I find the training ok, because running distance I do not seem to get injuries only went I do speed work. I am doing this marathon because I am doing my first Ironman next summer in the UK and its just the marathon I am not sure about. So in the tri off season I thought I would do three races in the running season the Snowdonia marathon, the Helsby half marathon and the Blackpool mathathon and I hope I stay injury free and do my first marathon inbetween 4 to 5 hours. I love to train but I do not like this tapering, it feels like I have done nothing. I know I need to do it or I will get to mile 20 and hit the wall. I just want to jog round and enjoy.B-)

I was in the process of training for the Las Vegas Marathon, but after some issues with my foot I have cut it back to the Half on the same day. I wouldn't miss an opportunity to run the strip even if it is only the half. Next up is the Rock N' Roll full in June.

Re: What event are you training for?

Did my very first triathlon this past April in Tempe AZ, and my 2nd Portland (OR) marathon Oct.7 with a couple of half-marathons thrown in in-between.

My next event is another triathlon just outside of Las Vegas/Henderson NV on November 10. Then I get a break (from events, not training) before going back to again doing another triathlon in Tempe this coming April.

Why? I have no idea. I suppose losing some weight and improving my overall health (if you can ignore the consequential stream of minor injuries 8-) plays a role. In any case, I'm probably also just too stupid to know when enough is enough, or when I'm probably in way over my head.

At least I started out running so slow (yup, I'm a slug) on events that I'd never conceived of doing before that every time I go out I have a darn good chance at a personal record 8-). It is all pretty low stress; I have no "competitors anxiety" - I know I'm competing only with myself. All the other participants are my on-course entertainment (even if most of 'em are ahead of me) - it still beats the heck out of my usual solo training. 8-).

Re: What event are you training for?
PF Changs Rock & Roll in Phoenix Jan. 13. A little nip to the air in the morning and nice, flat course. I'm running in a half-marathon down in Tuscon on November 4. There is a big weekend-long celebration for the Day of the Dead, lots of cool stuff to see.

Re: What event are you training for?
Tucson...that might be a good warm up for the PF Chang in January. What is the name of the race? Is it hilly? Are you running the PF chang?

Re: What event are you training for?

You can find the Tucson race at http://www.everyoneruns.net

I don't know if it is hilly, I'll be a 1st timer. It is a loop course at the base of the Rincon Mountains, so the scenery should be nice!

And yes! I'm doing the PF Changs this year. The Tucson 1/2 fits in perfectly with my training, as that is a scheduled "long run" day for me.

Re: What event are you training for?

I'm training for my first 5K - the Houston Fun Run EP5K! I'm currently on week 2 of the Couch to 5K training program. Yeah, I'm not a runner - YET, but we all have to start somewhere!
