Re: running mantras? or what phrase do you repeat to keep you running?
"There's no place like home. There's no place like home."

and sometimes

"And you never will. But I've got a job to do, too. Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that. Now, now... Here's looking at you kid."

and sometimes

"Mama says they was magic shoes. They could take me anywhere."

Better. Faster. Stronger.

Making the sound effect noise from the Six Million Dollar Man is optional, but highly recommended.

Yahweh ... please give me strength ...
Yahweh ... please give me strength ...

(repeat as often as necessary)

This works for me. I start this prayer when I am exhausted. I am considerably less tired after repeating "Yahweh ... Please give me strength!"

"If you are always allowed to stop training whenever you feel discomfort, you will find it too easy to give yourself permission to quit."

Re: running mantras? or what phrase do you repeat to keep you running?
Quotes from kids movies help me..

Modified slighthy from Finding Nemo "Just keep running. Just keep running. Just keep running."

and from Dinosaur, "Just keep those little legs moving Earl or you'll be left behind!"

Also a quick search of the scriptures led me to these, I know some were mentioned above and there are several others. I especially like this first one "Come what may, I want to run."

2Sa 18:23 He said, "Come what may, I want to run." So Joab said, "Run!" Then Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and outran the Cush-ite.

Pr 4:12 When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.

Pr 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

Isa 40:31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

1Co 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Heb 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Ac 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race

Ga 5:7 You were running a good race.

2Ti 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Re: running mantras? or what phrase do you repeat to keep you running?
When I get tired near the end of a run, I tell myself

"Keep your form. Speed will stay."

and I remind myself

"Machine-like, my legs are on automatic."

My form falls apart when I get fatigued, and then other stuff starts to go wrong once the form is lost.

Re: running mantras? or what phrase do you repeat to keep you running?
The first half of the run needs no cajoling of the body by the mind, but during the second half of my run, I keep telling my body that each single step of my legs takes me closer to the finish line.
.
I keep telling my body something like, "Come on, you've run more than 53 percent of the distance, there's only 47 left'', and so on(Not that I'm too particular about the calculations, though). Sometimes I think in terms of percentage, sometimes in terms of distances ("6.5 kms down, 3.5 to go").

And with every passing step that I take, the balance keeps changing in my favour, and the thought of stopping gets farther away. Works every time for me !

One more:

I'm a lean, mean, fighting machine

I like it because it was one of John Candy's lines, so if he can be lean and mean, so can I.

Re: running mantras? or what phrase do you repeat to keep you running?
A few things...

1) "Is this REALLY the best you can do?"
2) "GRRRGHGHGHAAGHGHHGRRRRR" (repeated when going up a steep hill)
3) Lots of random cursing, inappropriate to be typed here.
4) "This is your moment. Celebrate the pain."

Re: running mantras? or what phrase do you repeat to keep you running?
"Just imagine the pain Gary felt. This is nothing"

Gary is my Father in Law and one of my best friends. He was diagnosed with cancer and has endured many hours of Chemo and Radiation. I run in honor of him in hopes of honoring him.

He deserved better.

Re: running mantras? or what phrase do you repeat to keep you running?
I have 2 favorite mantras.

The first:
"Feet fast, legs strong, I can do this all day long".

and the second:
"Thoughts become things, I am a winner!"
