Alias?

I read some local race results the other day and I came across a woman who had entered under the name Ima Turtle. It could have been her real name, but I highly doubt it.

Have you ever entered a race under an assumed name, and what was it? Or if you were to do so, what name would you choose?

I haven't done this, but I've thought about it.

I've entered a few races as Buck Naked. In smaller races I sometimes finish in the top three of my age group. Usually get a chuckle when they call Buck up to get his award. I used to know a guy whose real name was Rusty Ball. At race registration he was often asked "Sir, please us your real name."

Oh yeah, something to remember though.....
Sometimes race directors will sell the list of entrants and their street addresses to a junk mail distributors. If you don't want your mailman giving you strange looks, be careful of the alias you pick.

I've never personally used an alias when entering a race but know a few people who have. I have known some people with weird names though, including a few Dicks. One was a close friend and his name was Dick Johnson and I always kidded him about the redundancy in his name and he always responded he was named for one of his attributes and he was so large they had to name him twice. Another guy I worked with a long time ago was named Dick Hertz, no kidding. And one kid I went to middle school had the last name Dick and sometime during 6th grade his family decided to change their last name to something a little more Irish. Funny thing is that everyone still called him Dick afterwards because we were used to it. I remember playing football at recess and he was the QB we'd yell something like, "Dick! Dick! Over here, I'm open!" and he never looked at you but as soon as you called him by his new last name he'd zip the ball to you.

I once went to high school and then worked with a guy named:
Richard Bradley Burns
He had the unfortunate nickname for several years of "Dick Badly Burns"

Sorry, couldn't resist...

"Dick! Dick! Over here, I'm open!"

...That's what she said.

What on earth are some parents thinking when they name their children?!

The Cincinnati Reds hired a new pitching coach this year ... Dick Pole.

You can't make this stuff up.

I knew a Dick Weed at one place I worked. I often make fun of my own father?s name. Our last name is Force?his first name is Richard and he goes by Dick.
I think the worst name with sexual connotations I?ve ever heard was when I was in the Navy. The paygrade/rank of an E3 in the Navy is called a Seaman. I was once stationed with a girl (an E3) whose last name was Swallow?.Seaman Swallow. As if that weren?t bad enough, she got married and decided to hyphenate her last name. The guy she married had the last name ?Dix.?
Here?s an interesting activity. On your email system at work, do an address search for everyone with the first name Richard, Dick, or Peter. You might find some good ones.

Since this is the way this thread is heading,

I dated a guy once whose last name was Goo.

His uncle was Richard, and, of course went by Dick

Dick Goo. The guy, of course, is planning to bequeath his own son, should he have one, with the same name.

The closest I've come to doing anything like that is to use my "Italian" name (Marco) in races that were sponsered by an Italian-American Club or run on Columbus Day. Last fall, Marco was 2-for-2 in those races!

Several years ago, I remember hearing about someone getting DQ'd from a race for using an alias (my understanding was that this guy didn't want his college coach knowing that he had run this summer race, so he used a different name). Not sure if it really happened, but it's always made me think twice about doing it!
