Running Addiction

Any former Drunks/ Addicts out there?
Just wondering if I am the only one who managed to snatch my life back from ****, by swapping addictions!

Running/ Triathlon has saved me!

August 4th= 2 years of sobriety and:

loss of 140 Lbs
2 Marathons
2 Half Marathons
2 5k
2 10K
2 100 Mile Bike races
1 Triathlon

Half Ironman in August- NYC marathon in November.

And One unbelievingly happy life, found again, just where I left it...with my wife and twins (6yr olds)

Re: Running Addiction
Awesome! I'm so happy for you... you did the right thing - by substituting something good for something bad. When people try to just stop without filling that void, the bad rushes back in..... Hats of to you and your blessed family!

Re: Running Addiction
Great job on the 2 years keep it up. Running and staying healthy for yourself and your family is the best addiction to have.

Re: Running Addiction
Good deal, congrats. 13+ yrs without a drink or drug and in my 10th year of running & triathlon. Also about 13 yrs nicotene-free and 11 or so years caffeine-free. Now if I could only get rid of the junk food..

Re: Running Addiction
For me it was nicotene. Quit the chewing tobacco almost 5 years ago and gained 50 lbs. Lost 25 through diet and then started running.

Congratulations to you on hitting two years and your amazing results. Many think of doing it, but you decided to do it!!!

I think that's incredible. You are definitely and inspiration. If I were your wife, I'd be very proud.

6 years w/out a drink or drug...
I took up running at the 3 year mark...it has really helped manage the "insanity"...and I quit smoking a year ago....

Never thought I'd end up being such a good girl

I LIKE IT!

Re: Running Addiction
IrishSailsman,

If this was in person I'd give you a "man hug" for your perseverance and commitment.

No matter how tough life gets, a drink isn't going to make it easier.

Keep up the good work buddy!

Re: Running Addiction
Coming up on 9 yrs clean. Quit smoking when we started trying to have a kid, 9+ months ago, and started running. Now have a brand new baby girl.

I ran a long time ago, and in my first race this summer, realized that running was the last thing I regained since before my addiction got a firm grip on me.

Smoked at least a pack a day for 15 years...quit 3 years ago in August (the month I ran my first mile).

Re: Running Addiction
I go to the meetings, but still drink a lot of vodka. Must stop soon.
