Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 7/30
Hi everyone, Sorry I have not been around much, the whole knee surgery thing had me just lurking for a while. I am full into PT, and while I am healing fast, all my tri training is gone. I got on a bike at the club and a half hour at 80 rpm and only a tiny tiny bit of resistance felt like it was gonna kill me. Could only do 30 min. I was supposed to do a tri in about 3 weeks, and I think it may be dumb to push it. Collect my goodie bag and DNS. Live to race another day. I am coming to terms with a 'no race summer' and I am OK with it. Racing next year and not killing my knee is more important right now.

Glad to see everyone is plugging along!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 7/30
Joe, wow that's a nice PR!!

Tam, relax, a lot of pains before a race are mental... Happened to me before.

Dougie, get those pics, I love bike ****!

Alicia, still smiling? Good news about the bike :-)

Jen... ah you girls would find any excuse for more shopping!!

Jerry, Vegas is always great. 2nd part of the vacation will be in La Jolla, right next to San Diego. Will drop some mojo on the road for you!

Carrie, good luck on your race!! (not sure if I'll be online too much) Don't worry about the bike, I did my first on a hybrid too, and it was lots of fun...

Janine... rest if you need to, and just don't make it worse. Make sure it makes you stronger for the future races!

I did a 7 miler today in very hot and humid weather. Went slow and hit my goal: keep a constant pace and pick it up a bit on the last mile. When I come back in a week, it will be less than 3 months to the NYC Marathon, so it will be time to start training for that. No big goals, I just to have fun because I love that race. Of course I'd love a PR, but that should be quite easy, my current one is 4:40, achieved ata MCM when I was sick and pretty much did the Ironman shuffle for that last 20 miles.

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 7/30
Hey guys! Never got my ride in yesterday, got home from the beach and was SOOOOOOOO tired. Am doing LR this morning, so figured forcing a ride at 4:00 when exhausted the night before LR am was not smart. Like Jen I was asleep before 10:00, but the good news is I finally feel like myself again!

I can't wait for taper! LOL

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 7/30
Hi folks - first off, thanks for all the positive comments on my race. I still feel a little bummed about the racing chip, but if that means I get my rookie mistake for the year out of the way now, the better.

Took the day after the race off. I finally found an olympic-size pool near me, and yesterday knocked out my first four-digit workout (1000 m) there. Spending less time having to switch to backstroke for a "break", so things keep progressing. Probably will shake the rust out of the legs today with a short run, with maybe some core work to boot.

Tamster - I agree with the others; I've had to spend more on massage myself than I care to myself, but that might just be the ticket for you (I've got a nagging peroneal issue myself that's causing pain in my lower calf.)

Julie - that luau party sounds fun! And I'm glad to see you're taking your mishap in such a positive vein.

Thanks for posting about that tire stuff, Dougie. I'm going to take a good long hard look at that myself.

Glad you had such a good time in the Pacific NW, Looki.

Janine - sometimes you just have to hold back, and you're playing it smart that way. Hopefully, my trend is your trend in that I've comeback from forced layoffs more quickly each time around.

Just a few more days Carrie - don't even bother with time goals (I really had no idea myself); just do what you have to do raceday, and you'll be crossing that finish line with a huge smile no problem.

Stay strong with those workouts everyone - I know a lot of you have been putting in long miles swimming (and I don't mean the water in the pool variety) on two feet or wheels from the high heat/humidity reports I've been hearing

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 7/30
Carrie: You are going to do awesome! You have great fitness and you have been training smart and consistent. I cannot wait for the RR! When it is hurting on the run, remember your peeps here and the Rocky theme song Gonna Fly now!

Kelli: Best of luck on your race too...is anyone else racing this weekend?

I just got back from the hardest 10 miler I've ever done. Went out at 9:15 and it's in the 90's...and HUMID. Had 55 oz water, 1 gel and 3 salt tabs and it was still really HARD! So glad it's over!

Today and DH and my 11 year anniversary. We usually do an overnight but couldn't figure out the kid situation, so we have a limo picking us up to take us to our favorite restaurant, 90 minutes away. CANNOT wait!

Happy Hump Day peeps!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 7/30
You guys are the BEST!! Thanks for all the well wishes and encouragement. You can be SURE I will be thinking of all of you on Sunday morning. I so hope I will be writing a good RR afterwards and not be embarrassed to include all the details!

Kelli... good luck on your race this weekend too! I have a friend training for a Oly and was hearing about it, secretly thinking.... "I might be able to do one of those myself!" Probably not this year though.

Julie... sounds like you needed some rest. Have a wonderful celebration tonight on your evening out with DH!

I really admire you people (Kelli, Chris, Julie...etc) out there in the heat and humidity. I remember it well from when I lived in Texas and back east, but then all I did was tennis, not all this other stuff! I have to say that Colorado weather sure does lend itself to outdoor activity and I feel really lucky that way.

I didn't make it to the pool last night, but spent some time with my DH, who has been so understanding and supportive with all my training. I just thought it would be nice to just have some unstructured time to just hang out, especially since I had a good bike ride yesterday morning. We ate outdoors and ended up playing bocce ball in the back yard. Fun!

This morning I had a nice 4 mile run (including heading for some refreshing sprinklers at the park!) and I have a massage to look forward to tonight after work. I feel really good and haven't really started to obsess too much about the race, other than keeping a close watch on the weather forecast, which looks to be perfect.

One question though....do I need to take a day completely off before Sunday? I was thinking about just swimming some on Saturday and usually consider that type of day a rest day, but my DH laughs at me when I say I'm taking a rest day at the same time I'm on my way out the door to the pool! I know that at this point, I'm not going to gain or lose anything for race day, just trying to keep moving cause it's what I'm used to! That, and to burn off any nervous energy. I suppose I should have more of a plan for these next few days but I really don't! I do have a tennis match Thursday night and was planning on a short, easy run Friday morning. Any and all advice welcome...

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everybody!
Carrie

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 7/30
Kelli... I do remember that hot evening race you did. I'm always intrigued to see the range on race results too and usually happy if I'm right around the 50% mark for my division. I was pleased at that Dip N Dash I did a couple of weeks ago, to be 31/64 and only see one person older than me in the whole thing! Although, come to think of it, that sort of makes me feel old!

Same thing for the Tri this weekend. If there are 3000 who participate, I just hope I'm 1499 or better!

No workout this morning for me, but a tennis match this evening. I'm feeling good other than a pain in my jaw, of all places. I guess I can't blame that one on tri training. Hmmm.... weird TMJ thing that hasn't bothered me in several years. Oh well.

Hope everyone is doing well and feeling good.
Carrie

Argh! I'm so busy at work - I just wanted to pop in and say good luck to Kelli and Carrie with your races this weekend! Some big tri-mojo to you both!!

Somehow I'm managing to keep my workouts going, but will be heading to Michigan this weekend for a wedding, so will have work some things into a tight schedule. I'm anxious for things to settle down a bit!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 7/30
Kelli and Carrie, sending mojo your way for your races this weekend. I have a short Sprint Saturday, .25 mile swim/10 mile bike/3.1 mile run. My main focuses are to improve my swim/run time, and get faster in transition. Luckily, it is only supposed to be 91 with 80% humidity, but that is every day during June-September!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 7/30
Yay racers! So, yeah I'm supposed to be 'updating' every week about who is racing...and I'm a slacker, sorry everyone!

Things around here have been lazy and stressful all at the same time. I'm officially 75% at my job, which is a nice boost in the income, impatiently waiting to hear what they will decide about the future and applying for other jobs in the meantime. I did actually go for a run last night (on the dreadmill)-4 miles in 43 minutes. My stomach was full and I thought for sure there would be soup on the TV by the time I was done. Still no pictures from my race, but I will post a link when I see them!

Weekend away, the lake beckons.
