Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 8/13

Good morning tri peeps!! I forgot it was Monday and posted on the old thread, so I decided to start a new one.

As I posted on the old thread, I did a 3 mile run this morning, part outside, part on the TM because it started pouring. At least I got it in. The rain was a freak thing. I didn't think we had a chance at all. Yesterday, heat index was around 108. Yuck! It is supposed to cool down some later in the week, but we're looking at upper 90s-100s the first part of the week.

My brother's wedding was awesome! Everything went as planned besides the weather being a sauna. Yesterday was the hottest day of the year, but Saturday was close to it! It was more humid on Saturday.

I got my GymGirl and BikeGirl skirts, and I love them. My GymGirl skirt rides up a little in the back, but it is covered by my shirt, plus I think once I've worn it a few times, it will stretch out and not do that. Oh -- the pink shirt I already owned is a perfect match! I'm so excited! The BikeGirl skirt (compression) is just a GymGirl skirt with a chamois (and the grippy elastic on the legs), FYI, so if you like the GymGIrl you might also like the BikeGirl. The chamois is not super padded (more than tri shorts, but less than bike shorts), which is good for me. I'll try it out tomorrow and see what I think of it. Just thought I'd share. I'm sure you'll see a photo of me sooner or later in the outfit.

Everyone have a great week of workouts! This is my peak week for my Oly, then I'll start doing more bricks and tapering a bit. Tomorrow might be a short brick. I need to work on those more. Would it be bad to do a bike/run brick the day before my long run? Yesterday was rest, today was a really short run, then tomorrow is a bike, and Wednesday is my long run followed by a rest day (or a swim). If I did a brick instead of just a bike tomorrow, would that be o.k.? Maybe a swim/bike brick would be better. I haven't swam in almost a week.

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 8/13
Hey everyone!

Had a business trip in Chicago last week and am sitting in my office counting the minutes until Tuesday is over--b/c we're going on vacation! 5 uninterrupted days w/DH before he starts back up w/law school.

I have an interview tomorrow-very exciting, although I am using it as leverage to get what I want from my current position. Whatever.

I hope that everyone is doing well! Julie and Jen, keeping the crazies away? You two are going to tear it up at Timberman!

Stay healthy everyone.

Good morning!

This my taper week- race is on Sunday.
I am way more nervous than I was last year. Yesterday I was sure I was getting sick- headache, sore throat. Today, after a night of transition nightmares, I feel much better physically. Strong and positive thoughts this week for me.

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 8/13
Hi all. Sorry my postings have been sparse but work things and other obligations have been dominating my schedule. I was able to get in a 10 mile run, 1/2 mile OWS, and a 72 mile bike ride this weekend. I am training with a woman who is working toward the 1/2 Iron Man in Miami in November and I have been trying to keep up with her. I am heading to the West Coast this coming weekend to run the America's Finest City Half Marathon in San Diego Sunday.

I hope everyone else's training is going well. I will try to check in more often.

Kelli: A bike/run brick is more than fine the day before your long run. In fact, Sheldon had my Long ride/brick run the day before my long run on my schedule every week, so if he says to do it, it must be ok!

Tamster: You will be fine, just normal last minute jitters.

Jerry: Good luck on your Half and post a RR soon, sounds like a great place to run a race.

Alicia: Have a great vacation and good luck on your interview...

Me: Today spent 90 minutes on the floor at LBS while my bike guy showed me how to change a tire, then I proceeded to take the front tire off and change it, then the back tire off and change it (twice) and put it back on. Talk about breathing a huge sigh of relief now that I know how to do that.......yes!

Wanted to try for a swim this afternoon, but not sure it's going to fit in the schedule........

Keep it real folks!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 8/13
Julie- Awesome!!! See-- we knew you could do it! And now that you've learned, you won't need to know. That's just how it works, right?

Jerry- Nice weekend workouts!

Alicia- Good luck with the interview (or getting what you want from your current job).

Kelli- Post the photos, girl! Does the skirt get in the way at all on the bike?

Tam- Oh no! Tri nightmares....I have had a couple recently, but can't exactly remember them..... I always have triathlon dreams right before racing. Pretty funny!

Me: Spent the day at the Children's Museum with DS. I have a swim to do today-- short, and maybe I'll skip it. I'm pretty tired. Also stopped at a nice bike shop I can't usually get to b/c it's too far away, and it was just full of sexy, sleazy racing bikes. I was drooling all over the place. But I did get a nice full-zip sleeveless jersey I may wear at Timberman (my tri top is chafing me across the chest! ), a pair of Trifosi "fototec" glasses, and a gel-ready race number belt. Oh, but those bikes! Some of them were absolutely gorgeous....think I can talk DH into letting me spend 2-3K? big sigh

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 8/13
Hi peeps in the new week!
Julie & Jen, get ready to rumble at the Timberman! Have a nice duel, but make sure you don't draft each other!

Julie, so at your last Tri where you went with no goals, you actually achieved something big, it got you to learn how to change a tire. Remind me to do it myself one of these days...

Alicia, have a nice vacation!

Jerry, welcome back. So you train with the woman doing the Half Iron in your backyard... I guess you'll do it too, riiight? Shouldn't be hard, just float and ride for a while, and then it's just an HM, which you used to do two-a-day a few months ago. Just came back from San Diego, you'll enjoy that race, I envy you! I ran one morning in La Jolla so beware cause it was freezing cold!!

Today on my run, I listened to some podcasts for the first time, and they were great. I got the ones from tri-talk, and they kept me going for 3 episodes. Kelli, you were asking about the nutrition, one of the latest episodes discusses the tri nutrition in much detail.

So... slack time is over and marathon training is on. Yesterday I rode 30 miles at a high pace (well.. longest ride in 2 months) and today I ran 10 vomitrocious miles... It was very hard, don't know why, and it was very hot and humid (I started at 2pm). Only those podcasts kept me going, although many times I was thinking to bag it and try it again in a few days.

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 8/13
Kelli: Happy Runniversary! You sure have made a lot of progress in a year! Keep it up!

Chris: The week before last I went out for a 10-11 miler....it was 11:00 and so H&H....I died........not only did I go thru all my water (over 60 oz, I stopped on the route and refilled), I was just spent.....I cut the run at 10 miles and I swear it was the hardest 10 miles I've ever done.....the heat & humidity KILL me.....so that's why your run stunk!

Me: 4 miler this morning, was very enjoyable....maybe an easy spin this afternoon, depends on how much I accomplish at work......so better go now!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers Week of 8/13
Alicia, Tuesday will be over real soon. Have a great vacation!

Tam, I have waved the positive dreamcatcher and you will have no more nightmares. Smooth sailing for the weekend!

Julie, now that is what I call preperation! I wonder how many folks going into Timberman have actually practiced changing flat tires. That's awesome.

Jen, Christmas is right around the corner. Remind DH of that!!

Chris, you are a funny guy! Actually, I plan on doing that same half ironman, but not until next year. I do want to go down and watch my friend complete her race and also get a feel for the course. And the heat and humidity is a killer even for me. I was so sick on my long run Saturday. Sunday is supposed to be a high of 75 nd a low of 68. Ahhhhhhhhh!

Kelli, congratulations on a great year. Chris will try to tell you that is my schedule for a month, but he tends to exaggerate.

Did a 5 mile run last night and was still feeling the effects of the 72 miles Sunday. Plan on a 1700 yard swim workout tonight. I think I may rest Friday and Saturday for Sunday's race. Isn't a two day taper enough?

J
