Sat March 18 workouts

wow, me first? Freaky

Ok, 68min @ 5.75 miles. Runner's high on 2nd half. Been a LONG tmie. 38min out 30 back. Wow. I was flying.

63 degrees, overcast, and no humidity. Now THAT's what I'm talking about folks. Enough of this 90degrees w/ 90% humidity stuff.

Off to the Ren Faire w/ the kids so blowing off my swim! It might ran, if so I'll log that

Ron - great negative split!

11mile run. Beautiful morning in '50F!! But not a pleasant run due to a massive headache/neck tightness (can't turn my neck) from what I don't know. This is like 4th day. I think I am coming down with something. I probably looked like a robot looking right/left crossing the streets. Needless to say, very very slow run. I don't know if I can do 1.5mile OW race tomorrow. Will see.

Have a great time racers!

Nice training folks. Yoshiko, I hope your neck feels better soon.

9.3 mile run this morning. Had to go alpha on a little weiner dog without a leash but other than that, it was a good run.

Good luck to all the racers!

My first open water swim today in the lake I'll be swimming in tomorrow for my second tri, the Mid-August Meltdown sprint in central IL. By first open water swim, I mean the first time I've actually concentrated doing some sort of lap-like exercise in open water with goggles.

Didn't really like the really muddy, seaweedy bottom and the murkiness. I think I prefer the ocean even though I do have a minute fear of sharks. Anyways kept it short and relaxed -- maybe 250 or 300 meters at most. Just wanted to get a feel for the temp and waves before tomorrow.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Group run this morning. Headed out just ahead of the 9:00group. Dropped them at the 3m water stop. Stopped at the 5.5m water, and did a chocolate Gu. Won't be doing one of those again. BLECK!!!!!!!! Finished it out for 10m exactly in 1:27 exactly. All around awsome run. Couldn't ask for anything better!

Home long enough to shower, then headed off to work.

After work, headed out for a bike ride with son #2 (12yo). Very, very slow ride. Shoulda snagged son #4 and put him on the Tag-a-long to make the workout worth while. Oh, well, it was time with son #2... 32miles in a very long time at 10mph average.

Good workouts all. And nice speed on that return, Ronbo!

I was definitely wishing I had Ronbo along for today's OW swim at Zuma Beach in Malibu. Visibility was better than I've ever seen it. It seems to get deeper very gradually there, and we had to go out a long ways to get beyond the break. Still haven't managed to flip that mental switch from "nope, I really don't like the way these waves throw me around" to "whee, this if fun!" Still working on it, but didn't get as much time in the water today as I would've liked. Still, I did practice diving under a couple of waves, and being able to see the bottom made it much less more manageable. Next time I have get that visibility, I'll have to try grabbing some sand and pulling myself forward and in position to dolphin dive a little. There's another session of the beginner swim series tomorrow, so hopefully I'll do a little better. The break really wasn't terrible today. I just wish the water beyond the break was a tad calmer.

Chocolate gu....might as well eat a can of Betty Crocker Frosting.

93 mile ride today. Sheldon told me to ride for 6 hours. I had some (a lot) of unexpected lower back pain that sorta radiated down my left leg. Took beacoup d'electrolyte pills-enough to prevent cramping and radpid release tylonol...which helped a little with the pain.

When I went to small chain ring I had some relief...it was 100 degrees when I was finished with my ride. I was well-stocked with my rolling buffet (PH calls it that w/my bento box-I have the XL Ironman one!). I had cliff shot blocks, fig newtons, and in the last round I added a clif bars for special effects (a **** or 2)...it reminded me of my first century ride. Blech. I don't think I can bike and do cliffies. Too many bad gaseous memories. I'm fine if I eat one pre workout-no bad pre-workout memories I guess! Had 5 bottles of water on me.

I did 1.5 out and backx2. My cadence went out on the 2nd lap. I think PH needs bike computer installation lessons...maybe it will work on my ride tomorrow.

Yoshiko - I had that happen once a couple years ago. I was scheduled for 12m, but by 8 my neck was killing me. I headed home, ending up with about 10m, and was in so much pain! I finally went to the doctor a couple days later and got a scrip for a muscle relaxer. It did the trick. Never had a problem since.

On another note...finally got out for a run today after a little less than two weeks of no running. Been walking the dog, but that's about it. Amazing how two 4.5 month olds take up every waking hour!! (and some asleep hours too!)
