another Pleasant Prairie RR

Overall time: 1:31 (2006 1:36)
.75k swim: 17:45
t-1 2:49 (hard to get wet socks on your wet feet!)
20k bike: 39:01
t-2 2:06
5k run: 30:08
Pleasant Prairie, WI 8/19

Breakfast-stale mini rasin bagel, cranberry juice and Chocolate Chip Clif bar.
20 minutes before swim: Mocha clif shot gel

As Ron indicated in his RR, the weather was crappy. I honestly thought they would cancel the event due bad weather/thunderstorms. Everything was delayed about an hour. Quite a few people opted not to stick around--some high end bikes were leaving the transition area...so I was thinking "am I crazy?" I just tried to stay Zen about it and decided to do the best I could do with the weather conditions and take it easy on the bike to avoid crashing, or causing anyone else to crash.
For the first time ever, I had a panic attack in the water--I'm not afraid of the water at all! I was gasping and could not catch my breath--I was so tempted to swim up to the first platform and tell them I was a DNF. I just did breast stroke and did not put my head under water and eventually I was able to get in control. Very strange-not sure what happened! Hope it never happens again. Suprisingly, my swim was 2 minutes faster than last year--imagine what it would have been if I didn't have my little episode at the beginning! The run up the beach to t1 is slightly steep & sandy.
t-1 went fairly smooth, I had put everything in a plastic bag to try and keep it dry. Getting my socks on was a challenge, gloves as well. I felt good right away, and there are 2 hills right at the beginning - the sames hills occur on the back as well. I had to be cautious on the turns since the pavement was still pretty wet and it was lightly drizzling-but I still managed to pass quite a few people. 1 minute improvement on the bike from last year.
t-2 uneventful, except I had a hard time getting my gloves off.
The run went OK-this is my weakest part & I'm a slow runner. It was great to have the cooler temps since the course is not really shaded at all. My legs felt pretty strong and I managed to take almost 2 minutes off my run from last year.
All in all I was quite pleased, especially with the wet conditions on the bike course.
It was great to see Ronbo again, but unfortunately I didn't get to meet up with any other CR's.

One man's mountain...

I think it was the stale bagel that made your swim difficult - sport for a fresh one next time!!!

Congrats on 5 minutes off your time - way to go in the slick conditions!

Nicely done - way to take some time off last year's run and overall race! As far as the swim, maybe Ron was throwing karate chops your way and that's why you panicked? Sometimes it happens, bad weather, the crowd, dark water, or no reason at all. It gets easier, or at least you're better able to put the fear in a little box somewhere and race without it. Congrats on your race!!

BAHAHAHAA. No doubt, well clearly gravity does not impact pichburg nearly so much as me. She was lookin' lean and mean Sunday!

Good race, that's a real solid improvement over last year, no doubt and FAR from ideal conditions too boot!

and great to see you and DH again, for sure!

Re: another Pleasant Prairie RR
Pichburg, way to hang in there in the swim. Glad you didn't DNF it, because those can hang around longer than we want. And to come back from that and not only swim 2 minutes faster than last year but go on to a 5 minute course PR shows how much more fitness and speed you have. Good Transitions times, too.

And yeah, I hate that socks over wet feet thing. ****.

Great job.
