Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars

On this day in 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt became the first United States chief executive to ride in an automobile.

I got my bike fixed up last night and headed out this morning for a short ride. It was 47F and foggy when I pulled out of the garage. Got a mile from home and was cold and couldn't keep my glasses clear so, having low motivation anyway, I hit the abort switch. Put me down for a total of 2.35 miles. Maybe later.

Take to the roads tr-peeps!!!

90 mins run this evening planned for after work - Its been windy and wet all day so hopefully it will be a bit calmer

Then watching England v Germany only a friendly (As much as England V Germany is ever a friendly) But should be the usual Roller coaster ride

3500 Super Secret Sheldon Swim.

WHAT IS WITH SPEED DRILLS?
Ok-so, my first fast 100 was good for me...1:40. Then it got slower and slower...all the way up to 2:00...one was even 2:16 (but I snarfed on some water...).

Am I supposed to be getting this slow in speedwork? I felt like I was swimming backwards through quicksand. Just discouraged is all!

Re: Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars
Track work
I did have run coach meet me to review form and we did drills after.
w/up 15min run

1600 broken into 400's
2:29 HR Avg 161
2:32 HR Avg 166
2:30 HR avg 173
2:18 HR Avg 180
=9:39 NEW 1 Mile PR and I wasn't dying. Could have held that.

800
2:19 avg hr ??? malfunction
2:22 avg hr 177

400
1:56 avg hr 186 (!) ok I was hurting

All of these were done with emphasis on good form and on track. This caused HR to shoot up bigtime. Lifting legs, spreading stride a bit, kick, push off, light feet. low shoulders, loose hands. And coach yelling at my any time anything fell off it

After 2x50m high knee, 2x50m skipping, 2x50m grapevine, 2x50m strides.

c/d 10min run

47 and foggy--definitely not among my favorite conditions for cycling, LRR. You'll get back out there later today or tomorrow.

Hope the weather improves for you to, Neil!

Hang in there, Tithers, it's just one of those days. It will pass and you'll be back up to speed in short order.

Me: Pretty much the same as yesterday. I do plan on attempting some laundry if the lifting and the going up and down stairs seems doable. If not well, it will be there tomorrow.

Edited to add: Good job on the track workout Ron!! Congrats on that speedy mile PR! Woohooo!!

Re: Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars
Bike commute to work on tired legs for me today. Then this evening is masters swimming. By the time I get done with that I'll have over 5 hours of training since Monday. Gonna be a big week for me.

Keep the rubber on the road Peeps (Roz).

Re: Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars
3500m swim workout with a teammate because we are too lazy to go down to the alternate pool (outdoor, 50m) for practice since our pool is closed for maintenance... And because damnit, the summer is almost over and fall is almost here in Montreal, where did the heat go???!!!

main set was 2 X 200, 4 X 100, 8 X 50, 16 X 25

Having some serious allergies today... is it allergy season now? All this blowing my nose is a workout in itself...

Re: Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars
Strange day here in New England. Started very chilly and very froggy, and now is, well, about the same where the frogs only croaked up into higher, but still low, clouds.

LRR: Swim tomorrow? Your call, Stiles or Silver. I can do either.

Neil: I'm so bummed. If there was ever a must-see friendly for me, it is England-Germany, my two favorite teams -- not including my red, white, and blue. I hope Becks plays. He's riding a nice wave of confidence. It can only be good for soccer here in America.

CC-Girl: Stay safe. Heal up.

T-Girl: My guess is that when your arms tire, which they have seem to have done early, your form goes to pot and your times per 100 yards increase. Happens to everybody. One of the reasons for doing intervals is getting yourself to the point where you can maintain form on tired arms.

RonBo: Wow. Look at that track stuff!

Me...

18 mile ride early this AM. Was supposed to be easy, and it started easy, and continued easy, until after the first big hill. I kept racing myself, then dialing it back, so all in all it was good for an interval day that only stretched the legs from the weekend's race. Nothing more, although I pushed harder than I wanted. Followed by...

3 mile easy run. Smelled the daisys. Breathed the fresh air. Waved a set of rabbit ears that should have been an extended middle finger to the teenager who shouted encouragement from his bedroom window.

Life is good.

2 Rest days is enough for me, I'm back!

22 mile ride, averaged 16 MPH with avg HR 123......nice. I couldn't do that at the beginning of the season, it's nice to see progress.

Tithers: I'm with you on CS swim intervals.....YUCK! LOL...I am always ready to stop at the 2nd 100.....

Happy Hump Day!

Re: Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars
6.5 mile run - commute to/from work, so I've only done half so far. Fun to change it up (read, ditch my bike for a while!)

2000-meter swim at lunchtime.
500 warm up
300, 200, 100 - P/S/K
5x150 - 50 builds
150 cool down

LRR - no sense in riding in the fog with your heart not in it. Good move!

Nice unexpected interval ride for you Thor.

Ron - great track workout. Congrats on the mile PR!!

Dragon - I feel allergy / sick coming on too. Is it mold from all the rain? I was going to bag the swim, but I'm glad I did it. I can be sick tonight at home! Hope you feel better.

Re: Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars
Bike commute day -

17 miles in - mid 18's. Definitely a cool ride; had a lightweight windbreaker, but all tights were at work. Could have used them...

19+ mile lunch ride@ 19.3 mph - solo on a semi-hilly route. Good training, I guess - because the race director's description of the Nutmeg course suddenly became "comparable to Timberman" ... We'll see! Two of the road names have "Mountain" in them, and the course elevation looks like it starts at 750 feet and rises up to 1400 or so (and descends to 360 or so) - so about 1000' between lowest and highest points.

10+ home (easy), hopefully followed by brief 1-2 mile run in new shoes for some mini-brick training.

Congrats on the new mile PR Ronbo!

Reg.

Re: Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars
Track workout for me this morning. WU 15:56. 8x400 (2:05goal) 2:06, 2:05, 2:05, 2:02, 2:00, 2:09, 2:07, 2:06 CD 12:42. Very happy because these intervals were at race pace. And almost all of the workout was z2, low z3.

This afternoon the weather cleared so I headed to the beach for a swim. Obvious my OW swims are almost done for the season--no life guards and few others on the beach. It was VERY windy on my long section. Half mile of almost but not quite cork in the waching machine. Focus was not on time, rather just finishing the stinkin' swim!

Shoulder is obviously still an issue. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow...

Re: Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars
Good workouts all!

Managed to get a 15.8 mile spin at lunch and still return to work in time for a 1 PM meeting despite getting a flat tire a few miles in. Second totally smooth tube change.

I see Matt posted something about tires...I should go read it since I've gotten several flats on both the front & back. I probably need to replace them soon.

Ride on!

Re: Workouts - Wednesday, Aug 22 - Cars
5.1mi run at an easy pace. Legs are feeling good after Timberman but I am not diggin' the forecast for Saturday's 5K: 90F and humid. At least the body is willing.

Good workouts all. Keep one foot on the brake and one on the gas.
