Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27

WOW.....this is the first time since this thread's inception that the new thread didn't get started on Monday!

I have been busy chillin'....LOL....I took Sunday and Monday off as rest days not so much that I needed to rest physically, I just didn't feel like working out! I can't remember the last time I did that, probably a few years ago.

Anyhoo, I am about to go out for a run, so back on the horse. My kids start school Thursday and then it's labor day Monday, can't quite believe the summers practically over, but it's been a good one. I always love the start of school, it's like a new beginning....I'm starting my Marathon training, joining weight watchers and work will REALLY start to pick up.....

How is everyone else? Jen, hope your leg is doing better!

Kelli: You must be so excited the Oly is finally here!

Did I miss this or I am the first to post?

Nope, Julie and I posted together!

Great Tuesday morning all, it's that between season right now where it could be 80 or 60 outside--love it!

500y swim, 2 mile run last night. My run times seem to be coming down more consistently lately which is great. 10:00/mile pace is getting closer to my grasp for a 5-6 mile run--depending on humidity! lol

Today-Job interview (that counts as training right? HR goes up!), 30min of yoga and a 30min ride.

Have confidence in your abilities today tri-peeps.

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27
Good morning! I'm actually going to try to keep up with this thread this week - we'll see how it goes

Yesterday was a 2300m swim, then 55 minutes on the spin bike last night. My legs were pretty tired this morning, so I slogged out 4 miles of running and called it good.

I can't believe I still have a little over a month before my oly. The training has gone on forever! Hopefully next summer won't be quite as busy, and I'll be able to get some shorter races in as well to break things up a bit.

Julie - Are you doing Disney in January? I seem to remember reading that in one of your posts...Certainly rest as you need it - you just came off a big race!

Alicia - good luck with the job interview! That would definitely make my hr go up - I think it's been almost 7 years since I had to sit through one. Hope it goes well!

Have a great day everyone!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27
Hi all... still crazy busy and don't see it changing anytime soon but really looking forward to the long weekend already!

I've had a few nice rides on the road bike and on my way out for a run here in the next few minutes. I need to hit the pool tonight and a couple more times this week. I'm still not convinced it was a good idea to sign up for that Sept 9 Tri but it will be fun no matter what.

Glad to see everyone is still doing so well with training and switching gears a little as tri season winds down. Hope everyone has a great day!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27
Hi guys!

I'm still here, doing ok. My legs are ok. I'm having a new pain in my LEFT knee, but I'm not sure what it is. I took last week off as complete rest. Yesterday classes at the University started so I biked around campus on my 400 pound "city cruiser." Now my left knee hurts. I can't win for trying!!! But I DO have PT this morning, so we'll see.

My main form of exercise this week seems to be walking. I've been trying to get in some brisk walking (with my fat dog) every morning-- it doesn't hurt my knee at all, and my pool is closed until Labor Day for their annual shutdown. I AM going to the university rec center today, so I'm gonna check out their pool and all. I'll have classes there every Tuesday and Thursday and I heard that the master's group swims there at noon everyday...maybe I can get in on some of that action!!

Carrie- The 9/9 triathlon was a GREAT idea! You'll have a blast, and you'll be ready. Don't worry!

Julie- I'm going back to Weight Watchers too now that my tri season is over this year. I find it so much easier to lose weight when I'm not training 12 hours a week...LOL-- it seems like it should be the other way around. I guess with less exercise, I'm not as hungry as a horse. And the strength training starts back up again for me, too. I'm excited-- I've signed up for a class, I think similar to the one you were taking that's all about strength training.

Happy Tuesday, folks!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27
I'm back after my first Du on Sunday, and a rest day on Monday that I spent at the US Open. Big achievement on Sunday, I changed my first flat!

Alicia, as we head into the fall and the humidity goes down, you'll see that you'll get faster and faster (and not only from the weather, but because you keep training hard). Good luck on the interview!

Carrie, I think it was a great idea to sign up for a second Tri, it keeps you focused and motivated, right?

Julie, you need weight watchers after all the hard training you do??? I usually feel that I can't eat enough... and the only time when I use FitDay is on hard training days to make sure I eat all my calories... Btw, that's a fast tempo!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27
Hi everyone - I've kinda' hit a bit of a doldrum period mentally and motivationally this week. Its funny how you get guilty when you take even one day off, but I figure a few days off of chillin' (to borrow Julie's word) would be good, especially with the Labor Day holiday coming up this week.

I loved my bike ride on Sunday - 25 miles on isolated country roads with nary a car in sight.

Alicia - how'd the job interview go? Hopefully it went well for you

Jen - yeah, WTF's going on with that? If it's not one thing with, it's another it seems; hope it's just a little blip on the radar, so to speak

Julie - 6 miles at 57 min; nice run there! BTW, have you ever tried using the grazing philosophy? I've found it keeps me from overdoing it on the major meals and I guess my body's metabolism has adapted, because it knows there will be a little food going in there at a steady rate and burns it off accordingly.

Carrie - of course it's a good idea! You'll do fine...if anything, you'll give me incentive to find a second tri after my first in a few weeks.

Anyway, hope your day's going well tri-folks

- Joe

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27
Thanks for the well wishes I ended up doing a phone interview while I'm at work since the lady called an hour and a half before she was supposed to...anyway it's done for now and I'm going in to the office on Friday for a face-to-face w/the Chairman.

I need a stiff drink...first a workout, then a stiff drink. I don't know if my 'quiet' workouts will cut it--I may need to blast through something with a little more oomph.

More later, I'll try to not be so selfish and actually comment on everyone else's lives

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27
Julie, I know... those cocktails have tons of calories and you don't even think about them... I mean it's just a nice smooth drink, how the heck could it have 300 calories? And I think the same as you, after a 2-3 hours workout I could eat anything.

Alicia... better do the workout first, then the drink :-) I tried it the other way and didn't work too well.

Kelli, how's your taper?

Today was one of those very rare days when I do 3 workouts... First a 4 mile run, then went to the gym and swam 750y, and stayed a little longer for some weight lifting. I just decided to do the sprint race at the Tri 2 weeks from now... I didn't get much progress with the swim so I don't want to do that survival swim again if nothing's changed. This would be my last Tri of the season, so I want it to be a totally pleasant experience. Then during the winter I'm counting on a major improvement.

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27
Julie- Yes, I am getting very excited. Only 2 more workouts this week before my tri! Wow!! I do have a friend who has lost 15 pounds this summer by eating 300 calories an hour throughout the entire day. It speeds the metabolism. She said she has even noticed that she is sweating more.

Alicia- We are just getting started with the summer weather. I hope it cools down in a couple months, though! Hope the interview went well!

Chris- Awesome job at your first du! Rockin' bike time, dude! My taper is going just fine (see below). 3 workouts in one day? Are you crazy? Oh, yeah, I forgot ? you're a triathlete! LOL

Heidi- Great workouts!

Carrie- Don't worry about the tri. You'll do great! Did I miss the story about your new bike? I'll have to check the other thread and see.

Jen- Sorry about the new pain.

Well, I didn't read the end of the last thread because I got busy. We got some more flooring laid this weekend (under all the appliances in the kitchen), but this Saturday we are hoping to get a lot done because it is straight laying across the living room and dining room. I'll be so glad to have my furniture back where it belongs! My house is just a huge chaotic construction/toy zone!!!

My tapering is going fine. I'm enjoying the extra time I have. I'm getting excited about my tri, but things have been so busy. School started Monday, so that has helped some. I'm so behind on my house because of the flooring project and everything else. I've been doing laundry non-stop for 2 days, and it still isn't done yet! I'll be happy to concentrate on one thing (HM training starts soon).

My workouts:
Saturday ? 29 mile ride/4.3 mile run brick (this went very well ? I really feel prepared)
Sunday ? rest day
Monday ? 1500m swim (I swam it straight and did it in just over 31:00 at an easy pace)
Tuesday ? 11.5 mile bike @ 16 mph (92 degrees!!) -- I'm really liking my aerobars!

I'll do a 3 mile run tomorrow, rest Thursday (we have preschool Open House), and do a 15 mile bike/2 mile run brick on Friday. Then, I'm done!!! I'll relax. We're laying floors on Saturday, but we're going to the lake on Sunday. The weather is supposed to be pretty good for the tri.

Oh, DH took a picture of me after my ride tonight because I had on my favorite jersey with my BikeGirl skirt. I had him take a few photos of me riding in aero so I can check my position. I'll post a photo when he gets it on the computer. I want to get fitted with my aerobars, but I'm not doing it now. I just don't have time, and I don't want to mess with anything before my tri. I REALLY need to change a tire. I'll try to do that in the next day or so. I'll also have DH take a photo of me in my cute running skirt too.

Last thing ? I go to a little LBS right by my house. They have been open MAYBE 2 years. They are super nice. Two guys own it, and they have kids and such. Well, one of the guys' son is in my DDs class this year. I saw him on the first day of school dropping him off. Is that cool or what?

Goodnight tri-peeps! I need some sleep!

Kelli

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 8/27
O.K. I had to comment on the last thread:

Chris- I know ? dedicated, blah, blah, blah sounds better, but I can be uptight sometimes. Having 3 kids has cured me of that mostly, though! I know I can do the swim, but for some reason that's always the part that freaks me out (maybe because it is first? Maybe just the fear of the unknown? I don't know!) I swam 1500m yesterday, and it was fine. How could I forget you did an Oly? I remember being so proud of you for completing that swim. Please forgive me.

Carrie- I am only organized on paper! You should see the ?paper? in my house right now. It is piling up everywhere!! In fact, my house is a disaster zone right now! Organized is NOT the first word that comes to my mind!

Julie- Where are the pictures? I'll have to go searching!

Joe- I hope the swim lessons help. They have taken swim lessons many times, and they keep improving, but they still can't swim 25m!

I've added the other races to the list.

Who else is racing this weekend besides me? Anyone? I don't have anyone else in the schedule!
