Favorite Baseball Movie

So I guess you can say I'm on a sports movie kick right now and it might be due to the fact that I'm new to life without college athletics after graduating this May, but either way a kick is a kick. So, let me know what your favorite baseball movies are. I watched a classic this week...A League of Their Own with Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, Madonna and Rose O'Donnell. Great flick and one of my favorites. I'm also a big Field of Dreams fan with James Earl Jones, Kevin Costner and Ray Liotta. Another classic!
My favorites, are
Bull Durham
61*
The Natural
Pride of the Yankees
For Love of Game
Little Big League
Angels in the Outfield
Major League (1st one only)
Bad New Bears (the original only)
Stealing Home
Nice list! I've seen about half. Is The Natural the one with Robert Redford?
Yes, Robert Redford is in this movie. Another movie I forgot to mention and should have been in my top ten is Eight men Out the story of the Black Sox scandal.
A League of Their Own is my favorite baseball movie and also tops my favorite movie of all time list. I'm a huge fan. My softball team quoted this movie non-stop throughout college--and we still laugh about it when we are able to get together.
"Hey cowgirls. See the grass? Don't eat it!"
"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great."
The tryouts in that movie were filmed at Wrigley Field. I know someone who was chosen to be a participant in the tryouts for the movie. You can see her during one of the drills in the tryouts and then again when they are ate beauty school "sipping and not slurping" their tea. ![]()
I also met the real Dottie at Nationals in Rockford, IL one summer ball season. I'm pretty sure her name is Dottie Keys and she was the center fielder, not the catcher, for the Peaches. Very nice woman.
Hey MyTwoSons... all great movies. Bad News Bears and Major League are classic.
But I must admit, I was surprised that Field of Dreams didn't crack your Top Ten!
Field of Dreams is a great movie for me to fall asleep to. The Sandlot is another really good movie that I forgot to mention and would have to be tied with another movie in order to not knock off another movie off my list. Since Stealing Home was knocked off by Eight Men Out.
The Natural
Pride of the Yankees
The Sandlot
Field of Dreams
I'm going with The Natural on this one with Field of Dreams coming in a close second.
hmm what a great question...I LOVE BASEBALL movies and im not really one for sports movies in general but Field of Dreams, the Natural, and For the Love of the Game are all tied as my favorite movies of all time. AND they all make me cry everytime!!
I Love Baseball Movies.. Currently now that we have joined up LL I love the
BenchWarmers, Bad News Bears ( new and old ) , Sandlot Kids
Others are "Rhubarb", Pride of the Yankees, Major League 1.
The one with Jimmy Stewart as the one legged baseball player is great.
Look out in the next few years for a Movie about Braves Relief Pitcher Aussie Peter Moylan. He apparently has already been contacted by a Studio to make a movie about his life and amazing come back to MLB ( sort of like "The Rookie" story )
In reality he has gone from a Sunday Bush League player in Australia to be arguably the Braves top or 2nd top closer/Relief Pitcher ( according to the Braves fans ) within 1 Year and all that after he was cut from the minors and many MPH slower several years earlier... after arm surgery and dropping his arm slot, he gained like 10MPH on his fastball upto mid 90's .. He is actually a fairly decent Minor League batter but never gets a chance to bat as a short relief Pitcher at the MLB level.........should make an interesting Movie.
The Worst must be the one with Tom Selleck ?? Mr Baseball ??
Oh come on...Mr. Baseball is a guilty pleasure.
Ha. Love the Bad News Bears. I'll keep a look out for the movie you talked about...sounds like it'd be another good addition with a good story.
