Well, no wine for me. I'm a recovering alcoholic, sober for 11 years. I am a shameless coffee addict though, hence the screen name.

I ride a Triumph motorcycle. DW rides a Ducati. We backpack and rock climb, though not much recently. My daughter is getting married in two weeks.

I'm a Gulf War vet and an Iraqi Freedom vet. I could retire from the Army next summer but I won't.

I do almost all the cooking for us, but I'm no foodie. I pretty much see eating as a chore to be gotten over with.

Steve

Who has time for hobbies with this tri training??? Work and my 4 year old dd keep me insanely busy, so I think of the triathlon training as my hobby. And as long as we're talking wine and beer, I suppose my other hobby is a good glass of cabernet or a nice, bitter IPA

I am a closet photographer....not like the one who posts the REALLY COOL photos of the kitties.....but I think I"m ok for someone with no formal training. My favorite subjects are my nieces.....maybe because they're almost a captive audience, but I also like taking pics of places I've been.

I also do crocheting and cross stitching....see my username? But, those have taken a back seat lately to my house projects. I'm a "new" (1 yr this past June) home owner, and somehow, painting the guest room and doing the "get the house ready for company" seems to be higher on the priority list these days.

Julie-Italy is my favorite so far. In college I spent 6 weeks in Florence, Pisa and Cinque Terre. Fantastic. Who knew that fresh anchovies are delicious?! I'm really looking forward to Rome-it will be our first international experience as a married couple (we'll celebrate 4 years while we're there ).

I eat to live! Sorry but I don't like to spend money on food. I could live on peanut butter, bananas, cereal, yogart, pasta and chicken I would rather buy tri gear! If I need a recipe I go on line and find the easiest one! I do bake good cookies at Christmas time!

I like to travel. the farthest I have traveled is to Paris and Hawaii. I am looking forward to more trips now that the kids are older. Just have to finish paying for their college first. I want to go to Germany! I need to find a way to deal with my motion sickness on airplanes! LOL

I taught special education years and years ago! Now I have a fun job working in a running store!

Re: Tell us something about yourself that is not "tri-related"...hobbies, etc.
Wow, you guys are all so interesting. Every post I read, I thought, "I want to do that..." Great thread, Julie, thanks for posting it.

I love to recycle - particularly old houses that have been abandoned or neglected. 10 years ago, Matt and I bought an 1872 enormous Victorian house that was going to forclosure, and looked like the Adams Family house . We worked on it all the time, and sold it last year for triple what we paid. That allowed us to buy and rehab an 1840 stone carriage house on 4 acres of land. It's small and adorable, and since it was just a shell of a house, we put together the inside just the way we wanted it.

So, I finally got my perfect kitchen, which is my other hobby- cooking, mostly vegetarian or vegan meals. Luckily Matt's a willing guinea pig. I am extremely interested in nutrition and how different foods affect us. We eat a mostly plant based diet with small amounts of meat.

I also love to garden, landscape, build ponds, stone walls. We built a liner pond at our old house that we were constantly perfecting. I'm sure we'll have one eventually at the new place. We just bought a tractor with a deck, front end loader and tiller yesterday and I can't wait to plan my vegetable garden for next year.

I love to play Ultimate frisbee. Once a week with a group of friends and whoever else joins in. I love the team mentality and we've made tons of friends through our weekly games over the years.

I'm a writer by profession - really a researcher, data analyst, medical writer. But, writing is a passion for me as well. I have a masters degree in English, and love to read. I would love to publish a piece of work someday. I also love to edit, and could see doing that as a career someday.

There's just too little time for everything! We talk about maybe having a baby someday, but so far we're not 100% convinced it's in our future. I think we all need 2-3 lifetimes to fit everything in we want to accomplish!!

If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and play a quick weekend getaway to a college bowl game. I went to one several years ago and have since been to a few more. All three of them are, to date, among the very best sporting (as a fan) experiences in my life. And the teams playing don't even have to be your favorites... trust me, if you're a college football fan, or even a stadium fan like me, you will have an amazing time.

Re: Tell us something about yourself that is not "tri-related"...hobbies, etc.
cricket

watching England. I've seen at least one day of every home Test series (except 1996-2000 when I lived overseas) since 1980. I fulfilled a life ambition to see England on tour last winter when watching them get hammered (not part of the dream) by Australia in Melbourne at Christmas.

playing for my local club. I think I'm better than I am (on my worst days I stillexpect the phone to ring for that England call up). In all honesty playing club cricket is one of the best possible ways to waste a lovely summer's weekend day.

gambling on cricket. I made just over fifteen thousand pounds in calendar 2006 and as we speak 2007 will see me bust through that. It's not my main income but in recent years (since 2004) it has come to be a fun way to supplement my earnings. Whether paying for the family holiday, or a meal out (or my new bike ) it gives me an enourmous sense of satisfaction to pay for fun stuff with somebody else's money. It's also something about the nuts and bolts of the activity that suits my personality perfectly: Attention to detail, love of numbers, in depth knowledge and love of the sport, strategic thinking, tactical flexibility, being a smart-*** and wanting to be "right" and show-off - I'm the cocky-kid who tells you whodunnit after ten minutes of the film...

and that's me.

Re: Tell us something about yourself that is not "tri-related"...hobbies, etc.
Tri training is my new hobby and passion- something just for me.
Beyond that I enjoy cooking as well as reading cookbooks for inspiration. I love reading magazines and have 5 current subcriptions and an overflowing magazine basket in the living room that drives DH crazy. I am a huge Patriots fan and watch every game - I love football season. It is rare as a lifelong NH resident that the Sox and Pats are both doing so well .... I'm always waiting for the next inevitable Bill Buckner moment.
I spend the rest of my non work time with DH and we enjoy doing a variety of activities (hiking, camping, traveling, listening to music, etc.) with our 2 DS.

Re: Tell us something about yourself that is not "tri-related"...hobbies, etc.
My ultimate hobby is willing Ohio State Buckeyes to defeat. I come up with all sorts of plots and plans, in one great ploy, to pretend I'm a huge Maize and Navy fan just to knock a few apples off the applecart uniquely named BuckeyeBoy. I attribute this evil **** not to our very likeable BuckeyeLover but rather to an idiot roommate I had many years ago who, as a big football player for his college and an Ohio resident and lover of all things Buckeye, used to put me in head locks and steal my beer. You can put me in a head lock, but don't steal my beer.

Re: Tell us something about yourself that is not "tri-related"...hobbies, etc.
I write also. I just blew the dust off of a couple of boxes of short story manuscripts and sent one off again. I also dug out an old disk (and it still worked!) containing a novel that was about 3/4 completed 8 years ago. I'm doing some updating and editing now, with the thought of entering it into a contest searching for new writers.

I also enjoy baking. I'm a decent cook, but I've got some mad baking skillz. I try to only do it when I've someone to bake for. Work, family. Otherwise I take way too much pleasure in consuming my end results.

And sports. Watching, playing....many sports. Especially hockey this time of year. Red Wings finally have their official home opener tomorrow!!! Wooohoo!!!!!
