I have a question for any of you wheelsmiths out there.
OK, Santa got me a Park Tool Spoke Tension Meter. I know a little about wheels. I have a Park Truing Stand and have always trued my own wheels. So now I have the meter which will allow me to be more accurate in truing and spoke tension. But I have a question. The directions that come with the meter explain how to determine average spoke tension, and relative spoke tension based on the type of spoke in use. I understand how to do all that on a wheel that's already laced. But, how do I know what the average spoke was supposed to be when the wheel was originally built? And, if I want to lace a wheel myself, how do I know what the average spoke tension is supposed to be as I assemble and lace the wheel? Is there a rim manufactureres recommendation of kilogram force (based on the type of spoke)?
