Wed October 24th On this day .........

On this day in 1945

The United Nations Organisation has been formally inaugurated during a short ceremony at the US State Department in Washington.

A total of 29 countries ratified the United Nations Charter that was signed by 50 nations on 26 June in San Francisco. US Secretary of State James Byrnes signed the protocol and proclaimed the charter was "now a part of the law of nations".

He said it was a historic day for peace-loving nations of the world. But he warned peace was not based on documents but depended on the will of people to maintain it.

He added the USA would do its best to promote international co-operation.

The organisation will consist of six organs:

* a General Assembly of all members;
* a Security Council with five permanent members - China, France, Russia, the UK and the US - and six temporary members;
* an Economic and Social Council;
* a Trusteeship Council to supervise administration of colonies, former mandates of the League of Nations and territories taken from defeated nations;
* an International Court of Justice to be based at The Hague in the Netherlands;
* a Secretariat.

You guys mind if I join the daily check-in? I have two kids and a sometimes overly-demanding job so I need all the motivation I can get -- working towards a 10K in November and another in December. Some of you were kind enough to advise me on my first metric century ride this summer.

Today - ran 3.5 miles, mostly on treadmill, partly in rain and dark. somewhere between 10 and 11 minutes a mile. That is fast for me.

Yesterday - swim lesson # 2 at the Y -- trying to break some bad habits in my freestyle form (um, the only stroke I can do at all) and preserve my neck for my old age...

Thanks for letting me mostly lurk these many months....

what a great game to be at ...

...if you don't like a competitve game, but would like to watch a bunch of expensive and well-paid Europeans beat a bunch of cheap and less well-paid Europeans...

weights and indoor bike for me tonight. did a 6 mile run last night and can officially declare my sore foot was the result of an irregularly worn golf shoe, and has now gone away. weighed 170 this AM - something like a 4 year low.

Lily, try moving the treadmill inside the garage, you might avoid the rain that way.

Bike commute to work for me this morning, I'm just sitting around waiting for the sun to come up, or at least get close. Should still be able to make it to work on time, just won't have much time to clean up. That's okay, cleaning up is overrated anyway. Right? Hey, where'd everybody go??

Keep the peace, Peeps!

not their fault at all. And, FWIW Arsenal have been less bad than many when it comes to buying/producing their own talent over recent years. Just always makes me smile to see the glee that club football can engender in otherwise sane ppl; when (long term) it's no more complex than "our wage budget outstripped theirs", meaning the ONLY games worth anything are the close ones. But then i'm a neutral. If one has a sense of allegiance I sort of understand the joy of destroying a less economically viable club.

sorry for being narky. I used to love football, but have got very cynical about it in recent years.

40 minutes.......1000 yards of "water running"..........it was funny because there was only 3 people at the pool and one of them was wearing the water running belt too!

Happy Hump Day!

1:11 of swim drills. Kick/one arm/fins/paddles. Distance??? Not a clue. Couldn't keep track of laps for the life of me...

Then for a run. 50' and damp this morning. Beautiful fall sky. Grey silky clouds. 5.12m, 44:34, 8:42pace. Neg split, 11sec PR over yesterday's PR.

Working hard at my third day of complete rest. I'm not really itching to do anything. Kind of screams that I'm overdue for a break. No focus this week. I'll just do what I feel like doing.

RR/Weekend report is still in the works....it will be long.

Happy Hump Day!

Nice calf mbannaon! Welcome Lilybike!! Congrats on the game Neil!!!

I got 45 minutes of elliptocizing at lunch. Had a good sweat. Back seemed OK - still sore, but not nearly as aggravated as by running.

Strive for peaceful solutions tri-peeps!
