New Ironman 70.3 Event: Rhode Island

"Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island is the latest addition to the Ironman 70.3 series. Taking place on July 13, 2008, the inaugural event will consist of a 70.3 mile journey that includes a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run.

The course will utilize a variety of Rhode Island's scenic areas to include Narragansett, the picturesque communities along State Road 102 and downtown Providence. Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island will serve as one of 28 worldwide qualifying events for next year's Ironman World Championship 70.3."

Interesting - they already have a "Firmman" HIM event at Narragansett ... nice area (DW's folks have a beach house near there).

Also - noted that locally, the Pumpkinman folks in South Berwick, Maine have announced a HIM distance event for next year (September 3, I think) ... That one's tempting, 'cos I can just roll out of bed and go!

Re: New Ironman 70.3 Event: Rhode Island
This is not what I wanted to see. I was kind of hoping to not live the triathlon life next year, but I ride Rt 102 about 100 times a year. What a great road to cycle on, I just hope they repave some sections! I could almost bike to the race from my front door.

How do I pass this up? I have only done sprints for the last two years , but I do enjoy the notion of going a bit longer, but I was really looking forward to seeing how well I could do in weight training competition.

Whats a person to do? I suppose I can always pack on weight in a couple of years. HIM in Rhode Island who would have thought?

Anyone else contemplating giving it a go?
