Suggestions for starting C25K with partner AND podcasts?

I completed the C25K earlier this year and LOVED it...the podcasts and this group were very helpful. However, a hip flexor injury, then a battle with Lyme Disease has caused me to go back to square one. I am ready to start again (in time for the lousy weather, of course!) but my husband wants to start with me. I am THRILLED to have him do it with me but I am having a hard time figuring out how to manage it with the podcasts.

I wouldn't consider trying it in the early weeks without the podcasts...all those starts and stops are hard to keep track of without the voice in my head telling me when to run. But should I load it on HIS iPod too? But then how do we make sure we are in sync?

It seems weird to have one of us have headphones on and leave the other one out.

I have considered using my wireless headphones and a splitter on his iPod so that we can both listen to it, but those headphones were several hundred dollars and not really suited to running.

Argh! I know this sounds like a minor issue, but it really has me befuddled! Anyone solved this for themselves???

Thanks in advance!

I see a lot of people running in pairs or alone with just one earphone in. Maybe that could help give you the cues but let you not feel so isolated from your running partner. I think I'd have to clip the "out" earphone to my shirt or it might make me crazy.

My bf and I would sometimes run together when I did the c25k and we just did the ol' "ok, on the count of three, one.." to push play and start the podcast on our individual mp3 players. Sometimes it wasn't perfect, but close enough.
We usually kept one ear bud out so that we could hear each other. After a while though, I hated the music, so it was nice that he would listen and I would just start and stop when he did.
Good luck!

My husband sometimes runs with me and then I wear the iPod and just cue him when it is time to run/walk. We only use it for the actual running part. The warm up and cool down we just walk together and visit.

I am looking forward to my first 20 min run next week - I get to use my own music!!

I am glad your feeling better after your Lyme disease. My daughter had it this summer too and it was awful. Just take good care of yourself.

Belkin makes a nice Y-cable that lets two sets of headphones share one iPod. I used to run with my wife like this. It's about $10.

That seems like a good solution to me. If you both have iPods, you can listen to the C25k podcast and he can listen to whatever he wants. Or vice versa. Whoever is listening to the podcast will start running/walking when indicated, and the one listening to their own music can just follow the leader.

No, the Y cable is something you plug your headphones into, and it plugs into the iPod. So you have the length of two headphone cables between you -- easily six feet, if you want. We never had a problem.
