Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Good evening all!

Well, had a good workout in the gym tonight. My trainer had me boxing for 45 minutes... whew! Tomorrow is a 3 mile run.

Rogue: good for you! Knew you could do it!

Bodacious: thanks for the inspiring words. I always enjoy reading your posts.

Jean: yes I watch the Biggest Loser and am always inspired. I know that their diet and exercise program isn't realistic for the rest of us, but at least they've chosen that path instead of surgery. I had an epiphany recently too. I have lost 52 pounds and I'm just 3 pounds from goal. I found some pictures last week from a cruise I went on two years ago with my family. I was shocked by how sad I looked in the photos. I am absolutely sure that person is gone forever. I feel so great and can now do all the things I love again (including running).

Dan: you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong.

Well, good night all. Have a great weekend.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Good morning, gang...

I woke up this morning completely abivalent o the 7.2 miles I was slated to run. However, I laced them up and got out there at 645 am. I am glad I did. Once Podrunner kicked in, I was in gear. Sure, my HR got up there again on the hills, but that is to be expected. I finished 7.2 miles in 1:16 with an average HR of 150. That really does not tell the whole story though. I felt stronger, especially on the latter hills - and believe me, there are hills on this route...LOL But I never felt "out of control". Strange, I know.

While my primary goal right now is to get ready for this HM in January, there is still the little matter of some remaining weight to lose. I am about 19 lbs shy of 200 lbs, my current goal in mind. I am not worried so much about the weight itself right now as I want to make sure I am still eating enough to fuel my runs. It is a fine and tricky line... But I feel stronger mentally and physically than I have in a long, long time.

It is odd... I am perhaps in the best groove arguably in my life... And my mom is 6 states away, in the hospital, trying to maintain some semblance of hers. Isn't irony ironic like that sometimes?

No new news on her just yet. She is not expected to be released until Tuesday when they have all of the tests done. Thanks to all of you for the thoughts and prayers. They are felt and certainly well-received.

Be well, y'all and enjoy your day!
Dan

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Hi you all
How's your weekend going? I have been busy with the house/yard, trying to get all the leaves raked or mulched before they get covered with snow, it's a battle that I hope I win, it is so much better to deal with it now instead of in the spring.
Been having some real pretty fall days, I love this time of year it's a shame fall is one of our shortest seasons!
I did get in an hour of swimming today, toyed with the idea of riding my bike instead but decided to save the leg muscles for tomorrows run I am up to 4.5 miles in my training plan and all seems well.
For some reason I am not optimistic about tomorrows WI, can't put my finger on why exactly, I know I had the ruffles and dip meal on Wednesday and a couple of cookies at the office pot luck on Friday, but I had pts to cover those, I know I have not been drinking enough water, I have been adding pts and keeping track in my head and not writing down, normally I do better when I journal everything.
Oh well whatever hapens at WI it's a new week and I pledge to drink my water everyday. I am also starting a brand new WW journal and I am writing down everything that passes my lips everyday until I make goal

Catch you all tomorrow

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Thanks for the inspriational posts. Today, I really need them!! Have not been able to run now for 9 days and am getting a little discouraged. I was able to do the eliptical twice last week but paid for it with hip pain later. PT says I can try running but would like me to do it on the track so I can bail if my leg/hip hurts and also because it is a level running surface. I just want to run my usual 4 mile nice paced run - oh yeah, and my long runs would be good too!! LOL - I haven't journalled in days and skipped my weigh-in this week. As you can see my head is not in it right now. I am going to have a quick bite to eat, take my aleve and go down to the track in about an hour. I will post later to tell you if it worked or not. 6 weeks until my HM - ughhh.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Decided against the track run and did my usual four mile run. It was just soooo beautiful outside and I have been itching to run. I told myself that if it was bugging me to much that I would do 3 miles or even 2 if I had to. All in all I know that I have an issue going on but it was doable. I think I may try to run a 4 mile run and a long run a week instead of trying to run 4 days. With PT, aleve and ice I am hoping that the HM is still doable.

I did notice something on my run today that I never paid attention to before. The pitch of the bike path I run on has a lot to do with my injury. It is really sloped - never really knew to watch for that. My right leg is always on the low end and as a result of running this route for months I have this issue with my right leg. Atleast now that I know I can pay attention to this and try and balance my run.

Have good runs!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Good morning, folks... Uneventful Sunday for me... I stretched and did some core work and pushups this morning. I feel pretty good the day after the 7.2 mile run yesterday. I may consider bumping it up to 9 miles next Saturday. Stay tuned...

No word yet on results from any tests on my mom. We may know more by Tuesday or so. They do not expect to release her until then. Times like this really make me wonder what I was thinking moving so far away.

Thanks again for all of the thoughts and prayers of support.

Be well, y'all,
Dan

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Pluggin I have a right IT band that will act up if I don't treat it right, I get the classic outer knee pain with it and also get a lot of tightness/soreness in the butt/hip area. I can get thru my runs when it starts tweaking but that usually means slowing down and shortening my stride, I also wear an IT strap. Good luck and vary the side you run on, those slopes will cause an imbalance!

Dan my thoughts are with you and your mum, I send hugs.

Happy I make a chicken barley soup that has similar ingredients and it is yummy, it is definatly soup season! I like to make my own but I did pick up some of the WW progresso ones for standby the other day, I tried one, think it was the santa fe one and it was pretty good.

Well I did my 4,5 miles, forgot my HRM which sucked, had to use my cell phone for timing, did it in about 51 mins and it was a very good run mentally. I thought about wearing my IPOD in case I got bored but decided against that as the bears are still awake! Have never used my IPOD while running outside and I am starting to think it was a unnecessary purchase, once I get in my groove I seem to get by with the sounds of nature and my heavy breathing

Well hi to all yet to come, I have to leave now, head into WI, I will probably be back later on today.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Bo - I am curious about this IT strap you speak of. I will ask my PT tomorrow. 5 years ago I went through a lot with my ITB on my left and had 3 cortizone shots and have not tried to run since. I will tell you though that I tried to do to much to fast back then and this time have been very mindfull of the 10% limit and have gradually built to where I am at over many months (and the C25K to start).

So this is the weird thing - and I am not sure what to make of it - my run today (4) I felt the area that was bugging me almost from the getgo. It was bearable and it never got intense like it was last Thursday. After my 4 when I walked my 1/4 mile warm down it got more intense and then subsided. Since then its like 100% of the pain is gone. Almost like something was not in its correct place and now is. Very weird. I can't wait to go to the PT tomorrow and have him do his usual routine and see if this has somehow corrected itself. Do endorphins create this much delusion? LOL - not sure but it feels good and I have my fingers and toes crossed that something worked itself out. I'll keep you posted.

K now the football is over I can finish my post

Well an unexpected loss at WI today, 2lbs, down to 151, I have extra incentive to stay OP next week, I hear the 140's ca!ling me!

I have started a new WW journal today and I am pledging to myself to write down everything that passes my lips and to check off all the little boxes everyday until I hit goal. I am not sure exactly what my goal is yet but it's a three month journal and I know I can hit it in that time.

I think I am going to order one of those Garmin 305's I know it is porably more than I need at present but $167 is an awesome price and down the road I am sure it will have it's uses.

Have been starting to think of my running future, I have been having more and more desires to do a marathon but am really pulling back on those desires at the moment. As much as I want to put myself up for one I am scared that once I do it will leave me with a 'what next' feeling. I am thinking if I rush ahead I will miss out on something, as much as I dream of doing one I am kind of enjoying taking my time and building thru the distances. In my mind I think this first year has been my year of 5k's, I have just entered my second year running and this will be my 10K year, in a years time I will look at 1/2's and then the full monty.
It is going to be tough to hold off that long but I am thinking thats what I need to do

K you all I need to clean some house and prepare for the week ahead, catch you all next week

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Good Sunday Evening to you all!

Well, my weekend was not a OP weekend for me. YIKES! It is to the point where I feel so gross that I can't wait to hit the gym in the AM! Okay so here goes, I am committing to get up at 4:45am to go to the gym!! Do you believe it?? All these months of watching you guys do it and I find myself needing to get up that early. I feel like that will be the only time I can work out and not feel guilty for not answering my phone, being available etc. So tomorrow is the first day. We will see how it goes.

Happy: Thanks for asking about DS. Friday night was my first night to watch a game with him on the sideline and I must admit I was both very sad, yet at the same time so proud of him. When his team first ran out onto the field and he was behind them walking, in his dress clothes, you could see that he was so bummed and so wanted to be in his uniform playing. I must admit I cried. It SUCKED! UGH, it is so hard sometimes to be a parent. I wanted to go out there and fix his knee and see him play. But then I got to see a side of my son that I hadn't gotten a chance to see, the teamate that he truly is. He was so good at rallying his teamates, keeping them motivated, cheering them on and celebrating with them. That is when I knew, my son is first class and injury or not he was a member of that football team and he has learned discipline, teamwork and hardwork. I am truly blessed. He is schedule for his MRI tomorrow at 3:15. We will see what is truly going on with his knee, evaluate and then what treatment he will need. I am still hoping/praying for a Grade 2 tear. His could possibly play this season if that is the case.

Plugginaway: We are all in the same boat!!! Take it one step at a time. Start with what you know you can be successful at and then start building. Getting your head back in the game is key. Here's to a successful week!

Bodacious: I bet Alaska in the fall is Gorgeous!! Enjoy the beautiful weather not to long from now you will be in a lot of snow! Can you believe Christmas is 3 months away???? Yikes!

Everyone else: have a great week, I will let you know how it goes getting up early tomorrow!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - Sept 17 - 23
Hey guys, looks like my kind of group! 34 yr old professional, dad of two, happily married, and trying to get motivated to 1) Loose 25-30 lbs 2)Begin logging decent miles for marathon in May.

I ran the 1/2 marathon in Fargo, ND this year, and minus a bad case of IT Band Syndrome things went really well. I consider myself athletic and into every sport known to man kind, but I'm a big dude! I'm 6'4" and about 240 and would love to get down below 220 to run this marathon.

So my case goes like this: I log my miles each week, eat good for about 2-3 days, and then fall face first off the wagon. I travel alot and tend to get bored in the car and then...let the snacking begin!

I'm thinking about doing weight watchers on-line for men, my wife and I had succes with this earlier in our lives.

Any advice, support, checks and balances, or just a good but chewing would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Bob

Hi Bob!
We start a new tread each Monday go find it and you will get more replies, that new thread will be going all week
I lost most of my weight doing online, it was a breeze for me, I was pretty accountable to myself, I just started meetings a couple months ago to break a plateau.
Travelling is tough I have been all over over this summer, it takes extra prep to stay on programn.
Anyhow great to see you in here, hopefully you will follow us all into this weeks thread
