Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd

Thanks for starting Chuck, I was just about to.
Well, had a so-so 5K run this morning...just felt like I had no energy...guess that french onion soup from last night didn't give me the energy I needed for this morning. And my back is still a little strained. My goal is 5K mileage this week and a long run of 4 miles this weekend. It is annoying to have to work my way back to the point I was before my injury, but I know doing it the right way is the best thing.
Anyway, I am so excited about the Nova Marathon Challenge documentary the end of October. Here is a link to a preview if anyone else wants to mark their calenders! http://completerunning.com/archives/2007/09/22/novas-boston-marathon-callenge/[/URL" target="_blank">

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd

Hey gang,

Went out for my long run today. Wanted to do 8-10 ended up cutting it short due to foot andankle pain. I'm worried about running th 1/2 next Sunday. Could use some advice here. My old shoes have about 300 miles on them but are pretty done in. My new one have 30 miles but not worn in enough to run the 1/2 next week. They still are a little uncomfortable when running althought getting better. Damn orthotics are making my life hell. Should I rest completely or should I do a few short easy runs or 2-3 miles this week? should I wear old shoes or new ones?

hmmm I'm icing right now and am going to take some ibuprofen soon. Need to cool down.

Hello to all and hope you have a great Sunday.

Hey gang...

4.5 miles planned for tomorrow morning... Stretched and did some light resistence work today for the core. I love Sundays and Thursdays...LOL

On to more important things... My Clemson Tigers whooped up on the Wolfpuppies from NC State... Next week, at Georgia Tech.

Be well y'all,
Dan

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd

Good Afternoon! My 1/2 is done!! WHEW HEW!!  !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

My Long Race Report:

I woke up at 2:45am this morning with a pain in the ball of my foot. When I stepped down it was super sensitive. From that point on I didn't sleep real well because I was worried about what I was going to do if it still hurt when the 1/2 started. I was up at 6:10am, drank a gatorade, got myself around and DD up and ready to go. DH drove us into Wichita. I arrived at the race by 7:30am so I had 30 minutes to spare. My foot was feeling better with my running shoes on. I jumped in the potty line, then ate my banana and protein bar and drank some water. I did a few stretches, walked around and at 10 til 8:00am everyone was lining up at the starting line. I was towards the middle back of the pack. At 8:00am we were off. The first mile was 9:51am, the next couple miles I got into a groove. I had negative splits from miles 4-9. I spotted a local runner that is training for a marathon and my goal was to catch her. I caught her and passed her just after the turn around spot. I saw DD and DH at mile 5 and 8 and at mile 8 DH gave me a banana to eat. The fuel helped. At mile 9 my watch clocked 1:34. Miles 10-13.1 were tough. At mile 11 I didn't know how I was going to make it and wanted to stop and walk but knew if I did it would be over. So I shuffled until I had the finish line in good sight and tried my best to sprint in. My time was 2:03 (23 seconds better than my PR). I was happy with that especially considering that my training really suffered this time around. It was a warm and windy 1/2. I was very thankful for the shade we ran in for awhile and welcomed the wind in my face on the home stretch.
My DH, DD and I watched several other runners come in then I gave myself a spit bath, changed clothes and we went to eat. I wasn't nearly as hungry as I thought I was and was just ready for a nap. I came home and attempted to nap with DD but I felt every ache and pain so that was pointless. My thighs are quite sore already and I have had a headache most of the day. But, all is good and my 4th 1/2 is over. My next challenge: A sprint tri in June.
Sorry this was so long. I hope all the other racers and runners did well this weekend.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd

Jen, congrats!  You had an awesome time. Doesn't sound like you were shuffling on those last 3 miles to me.  Take some ibuprofen and drink lots of water.  Maybe soup if you aren't hungry.  The heat can do you in.
My Badgers and Packers both won! Ds won, lost and tied a game in his soccer tourney. Brewer's are on their way down, but they gave us some good moments this year.
Corrina, I would definately do just a few short, easy runs this week. I had my worst week of running the week before my half and my friends told me that was not unusual. Your training is basically done, this last week is meant to be easy.
Dan, hope your mom is doing better.
Alex, thanks for the heads up on the Nova program. I marked it on my calendar to remind dh to dvr it for me. I never get to watch tv any more at night with my work schedule (8 pm - 8 am).
Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Mary

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd

Hey Gang!  Back from Parent's Day at SFA (Stephen F. Austin University)!   Ran 5.6 this morning at the La Nana Creek Trail by the University.
Got there about 6:10am but had to wait about 20 minuntes until the sun came up! It was pretty dark and I hadn't run there before so it was
a bit spooky not knowing where exactly I was going! Oh and there was also a light rain too!

The run itself was more of a "trail" run as it was heavily "wooded" (as compared to the city trails). There were also plenty of tree roots so had to watch my step!
Also stopped for a minute to look down at the creek. It was truly a "nature" trail run.

SFA unfortunately lost their football game 34-13. However it was a nice weekend for the Parent's. Oh and the Aggies of Texas A&M also lost 34-17 to the Miami Hurricanes a couple of days ago.

The Houston Texans gave the Indy Colts a good scare this afteroon. However the "real" game is tonight with the Dallas Cowboys taking on the Chicago Bears. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|border=0!

Jen - Excellent run and race report! Congrats for beating your PR by 23 seconds! Good luck in June! Oh and we thouraly enjoyed reading your RR so please don't "apologize" for saying your RR was too long!

Thanks Chuck for starting our thread this morning!

Sorry if I missed anyone!

Joe

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd

Hey everyone...just checking in for the race reports from the weekend...

CONGRATS Jen! WTG! Great time and glad you felt pretty good throughout...seems like miles 10-13 are tough for most...but you stuck it out and did great!

Got in 4 this morning with some knee pain...overuse no doubt...should have rested today but didn't...may rest tomorrow or do a short 3 miles in the evening...I have Parents Open House at DDs preschool on Tuesday evening so won't be able to run at home again until Sunday as I'll be in Chicago Wed - Sat...but I hope to hit the treadmill at the health club at the hotel...hope is the key word there!

Hope everyone had a great day!
