Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd
Congrats on your race Jen! You rock!!!
My DH and my football pool isn't going as well this week as last...he is one up on me. I haven't picked my team yet this year...I like to switch it up having lived in so many states in my life...however if I didn't pick the Patriots to win every week my husband would disown me.
I finally picked a 1/2 Mary training schedule after himming and hawwing for the past few weeks over which one. I have chosen the non-marathoners guide's 1/2 marathon schedule because it schedules you every other day for runs which is what I am already used to and think is best for my own body.
Have a good night everyone!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd
Good evening halfers, 5 miler for me this morning at sunrise. Had a horrible long run on Friday of 8 shortened to 6. But today was much better.

Chuck- thanx for getting us started

Jen- congrats on your PR! Good report also.

Corrina- Definitely break in the new shoes as much as possible before racing. I am breaking in a new pair also, I have a 5K this Saturday.

Joe- sounds like you had a nice run. I was in Austin this summer when they had the big rain so it was all treadmill at that time.

I was certainly cheering on the Texans this afternoon, they had a respectable showing.

Have a good week of running.
SM

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd
Happy birthday to me...
My DH got me a Forrunner 201. It was so cool to go out for my run yesterday and not have to map my run on the computer first. I just ran. Of course, the run was tough because it is one thing to know you are probably running slowly and another thing to look down and see your pace in black and white. Oh well...it isn't about the pace for me it is about putting the miles in and changing my life forever.

Jen-thanks for the report! It renewed my excitement over my upcoming 1/2.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd
hey gang. i did 8.5 miles this morning. really wanted to 9.5, which would have been the the entire distance around the lake where i run, but i was really struggling at the end, so i decided to stop and walk the last mile. i definitely needed to hydrate more. there wasn't a water fountain until 5 miles in, and that was a little late for me. thought i'd be more tired today, but i still feel pretty good.

jen - awesome job on the half!

i've got to watch the bears and cowboys, so no shout-outs. GO BEARS!!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd
Hi everyone, just got back from Little Rock and the pitching camp my DD went to. Jenny Finch was awesome, it was a long weekend but my DD had a really good time. Had to stay up and wash her camp t-shirt so she can wear it to school tomorrow so I thought I'd check in.

Jen-- congrats on the 1/2, thats an awesome time.

Looks like everyone else is doing great

Corrinabear--hope your ankle gets to feeling better.

Sheila

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd
Good morning, folks...

A relatively easy 4.5 miles on the treadmill this morning. 4.5 miles in 47:14. Average HR 145.

I slept like **** last night, but knew I had to get in for this run. I would have regretted it if I hadn't.

No news on my mom yet. Either today or tomorrow should tell us something.

I will be back later on...

Be well,
Dan

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd
Good morning all. Drinking the java. Trying to get my morning started. Had a busy weekend. Doing a lot of running around with my daughter. Yesterday we went through one of those drive through safari things, so much fun. Some of those animals scare me though. Right in your face. One time I put the bucket of food between my legs so I could get the camera out of my purse and this antelope looking thing came and was eating the food right out of the bucket between my legs. Yes, I screamed. Then he looked at me like, "what's wrong with you woman!" Pretty funny. I will try to get some of the pics loaded for you guys.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY YAMAHAMAMA!!!

Jen - Great race. Man it's gets me exited to run a race!!

I ran Sunday this week instead of with the group. A little hangover on Sat. morning. ; )

Well, I was sorry to see the Texans lose, but at least it wasn't a slam dunk! I guess I am happy for you Joe for the Cowboys.

Happy Belated Birthday yahamamma!!

Thank you all for your kind words about my 1/2. I did read the final race times today and I guess I was 1 second off. So I finished it in 2:03:01. bummer!

Is it okay if I still stick around? I know I'm not training for a 1/2 anymore but you all inspire me to keep running.

Have a great Monday!!

happy birthday yamahamama

Jen - congrats !! .. of course you can stay - I did my half back in August and I`m still here !!

Hope you all had a good week it`s wet and bloody freezing in Wales - I ran my 10 K here Sunday - finished in just over 1:07 - I`ll take that ! - still have issues with my groin - I think and all out rest from running is called for - it was so great to have my Mom and Dad see me finish on Sunday - even if they did have to stand in the rain for an hour to see me !

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers week of the 23rd
Happy Birthday Yamahamama!! Nothing like celebrating with a Garmin

Jen -- great time on your half! Your shuffle must be faster than mine That's neat about the wind in your face at the end. Sounds like the perfect ending to a good day! Hope your aches are subsiding. Oh, and of course you should stay in this group!

Here's my "race report" from the weekend:

Ran in my first ever 10K on Saturday. The Tour de Fleurs, which was on paths around White Rock Lake in Dallas. Had some blood sugar issues (too high) starting around 1:30 that morning, but thankfully arrived at the starting line OK to go. Was glad just to arrive at the starting line at all since my hubby only grabbed page 1 of the mapquest directions off the printer. There were supposed to be 3 pages!!! Fortunately I brought the mapsco, but left my glasses at home so had a hard time reading it. I need those reading glasses more and more it seems

My original goal time for the race was 1:05:00, but I had already beaten that on a training run the week before, so was really hoping to get in under an hour. Missed it by 33 seconds with an official time of 1:00:33, but I was still pretty happy with the effort and sustaining a 9:45 pace over the distance. 14th out of 84 ladies in my age group.

Had I not started quite so far towards the back of the pack, I really think I might have made it on goal, but I spent the first couple of miles bobbing and weaving my way through the crowd. There were many groups of people walking 3 or 4 abreast that I literally had to bull my way through. Even when I would say "on your left" or "coming through" many of them would not yield. The race was mostly on paved paths that weren't that wide, so they would totally block the path. Oh well, lesson learned....don't start at the very back again!

Anyway, good race with a nice setting. The volunteers were great, and they even had a drumline form one of the local HS bands at the starting line, a vocal group at the turnaround, and more live music at the finish. Met up with a few other folks from my running group there, and cheered a few into the finish. Seems that everyone had a good race and left with a smile on their faces.
